Also winning for th e second ti me in th ree weeks was Rodney Farris in the 250cc Pro class, wh i le Todd Winsett took hi s third 80cc win, wh ich he needed sin ce he and Paul Lync h were tied on po ints, with Winsett tak ing the ti tle by virtue of most wins , th ree to Ly nch 's two. T errance Os enbach also took h is thi rd win, but he on ly en tered three races . New winners were Mike Hacker ba nti n g Ken Co o lbe th for the l25 cc wi n and Charles Majeski pa ssing Mar k Burkh older o n th e 10th lap for the 360cc win. Wh en th e 80s pulled up to th e line, on ly ' four points separa ted L ynch and Winsert. But J erry Al ex ander gra b bed th e lea d fro m Winsett, Mik e McKee, Roy Miller and Ly nc h. Wins ett tried to get by o n the seven th lap, but both drifted high givi ng McKee the lead. McKee fell on th e 10th lap , giving Winsert the lead. Ly nch took o ver second o n the 12th lap , but could n't get close enough to Winsert to make a mo ve. The I 25cc poi nt ba ttle was almo st wrapped up by Robert Mill er before th e ni g h t bega n . All he had to do was make it to the sem i a nd even th e po in ts for last wou ld pu t h im over the top o f Kevin Varnes. Miller wa s in th e lead in hi s hea t whe n he fell and finished fifth o ut o f the sem i. But Varnes had to tak e first o r second i n th e semi and win the fin a l to tak e the ti tle. H e g- ve it hi s best , bu t he fell d wh ile tryi n g to take seco nd from T odd Sti th on th e final turn. With th e war decid ed , it was ti me for th e ba tt le. Ken Coolbeth a nd Mike H acker quick ly jumped way i n fro nt o f the fiel d with Mike Johnsto n in fron t o f Brett Fri edel and Sti th . Stith fell on th e fifth lap and Coolbe th went hi gh and H acker went under Stith as H acker eme rged wit h th e lead . Hacker held it to th e end wit h Coolbeth ridi ng the co nc rete ova l like a smooth clay o val, rig ht on h is tail to the end. Whi te had clinch ed th e class titl e th e previo us week a nd sai d he wanted to dedi ca te the title to cl ub memb er and T imo n iu m an no u ncer Brian Van Wri ght who was in a serio us auto acciden t two weeks before the sta rt . At the gree n light, last year's cham p Mik e Mester took th e lead from White. G reg Donad io and Rich ar d Foard. Do nad io passed White for seco nd in the early laps. but White regained seco nd after a few la ps, a nd then sta rted after Mester. With two laps to go. White shot under Mester as th ey went into the first turn for the lead. Anothe r close battle for points cham pion· ' ship was in the 360cc division wh ere two-time cha mp J oe Whi te had hi s lead cu t to six and a ha ll poi nt s by Mark Bur kh older's semi wi n. At th e start o f the final, Burkholder shot into th e lead , but White managed to cut across from h is nex t-t o-la st spot to follow Burkholder o ut o f th e second turn. The race was stop ped o n th e fourth lap beca use o f a crash. Burkho lder led th e sin gle-file restart, with White and Ch ar les Majeski eine rg ing as the top three. Once he go t ro lling, Maj eski sliced by White just past th e halfway poin t, wh ich wou ld have gi ven Burkholder th e titl e. but Majeski wanted the win, as he go t past Burkholder th ree laps later , After fall ing while in a co mma nd ing lead in last week 's semi . Rodney Farris kept the H onda up this week as he demonst rated wh y he is the one to usua lly beat wh en he's o n, a s h e q ui ck ly jumped in fron t o f Paul Crumlin~, Georgie Price, Mike Varnes and T om Majeski. Majeski got under Varnes for fourth on th e fifth lap , while Pr ice got un der Cru m ling a few laps later , wi th Majes ki co m ing a lonl'; before Cr u mling regained his routi ne.
