BMW claims that the fairing/spoiler combination adds 6 mph to its top speed, compared to the fairing-less K75 model (cen ter). The K75S has a suggested retail price of $7290, the K75, $6190. For the first time, all of the K75 models will be available with ABS (An tilock Braking System) as an option. . New to the K series fami ly in the V .S. is the K75RT , wh ich features a large touring fairing from th e KIOOLT and carries a suggested retai l price of $8390. T he KIOOLT , wh ich is the last four-cylinder model with a two-val ve eng ine, will also be ava ilable in a specia l Lim ited Edition model, which feat ures pearl-green metall ic paintwork, an engi ne spoiler and sports suspe nsion. The standard model sells . for $12,990 bu t a price for the Limited Edition mo del is currently una vaila ble. After its eye-ope ning debu t last year, the spo rty KI is back for another 'rou nd. Altho ug h it features no significant cha nges, it will be avai lable in two colors - red and now metalic black, minus the KI logo p instriping on th e fairing . It has a suggested retail price of $13,290. On the flip side, BMW re-in tro duces for '91 the back-to-basics . (by BMW. sta n da rds) R I00. T he fo ur-stroke horizon tall y-opposed Boxer twin RlOO featu res more conv en tion al stylin g, with its square-ish gas tank, conservative pa int work , round headlight . and fairingless design. Mechanically, it does sport many up-to-date features, such as dua l front disc brakes, eigh tspoke wheels and BMW's single-shoc k Mon olever rear suspension system, as do a ll of the '91 BMWs. The R l OO carries a $7290 pri ce tag. Even th ough most of th e changes to the 1991 BMWs are mostly cosmetic; BMW did dedi cate the 1991 model year to the cause of environmental protection. All the flat -twin models in the R series will be available with a nonhorsepower-robbing SAS (Secondary Air System ), which applies the princip le of exhaust emission afterburnin g, as an op tion, and from May 1991 , th e KI and KIOORS fou r-cylinder models are scheduled to be available with ca talytic co nverters , which is made possible by what BMW calls Digital Motor Electronics. And , by the end of 1991, BMW hopes to provide cata lytic converters for all two-valve K mod els bu ilt since 1983. In 1988, BMW introduced its ABS (Ant ilo ck Brakin g System ) a s an optional item on all of the KIOO models. For next . yea r, BMW has expanded th e availability of the"ABS, wh ich can now be ordered on an y of the three-cylinder K75 models. The ABS op tio n add s $1000 to the origina l price tag on all models. " 01 V nlike the sport models, the KI OOLT's (lu xu ry touring) standard features include a larger fairing, rear-view mirrors that also act as wind protection for the rider's hands, a detachable windshield, saddlebags, and vibration dampers in the handlebars.
