Out of the ch icane on the fina l lap, Schwarzbach was in the lead , n ot always the best place to be, but as Dann y Walker and j on Roberts trie d to ' ta ke adva n tage o f hi s draft , Schw arzbach weaved up and down the banking to deny th em and crossed the line just . 190 o f a second before Wa lker's Boulder Yam a h a , wit h Roberts a close third and Mike Moores fourth. •. A lap lat er, he and Kipp hooked up out of the chicane a nd pulled away from third place, th ou gh it was quickly evident that Kipp had the stronge r mot or and could drive aro und th e Honda RC30 of Quarterley every tim e th ey got up on the banking. Starti ng the fin al lap, Kipp led across the li ne, but Quarterley went under him with a bo ld move in th e Internation al Horseshoe. Kipp took it back as they got onto th e bankin g , Q uart erley out -bra ked him into the ch icane, but thou gh Kipp mi ssed a shift in th e chicane he still took the lead as Quarterley ma de a mistake on the exi t and pulled away to win by .220 of a second. Cortez was a distant th ird, abou t 20 seconds back. , " Dale taugh t me a lot of things thi s year; mayb e he taught me too much, " Kipp said. " He got by me going in the chicane and set me up for the driv e going ou t. I think he brushed th e wall because he got a littl e out of con tro l." Quarterl ey had earlier been frustra tedduring the Unlimited GP Expert when he was forced ou t by an ignition problem on his Suzuki GSXRllOO whil e running second to Harth with less tha n two laps to go.
