You 're not the only one, bu t there's one guy ou t there , fro m Vancouver, Washington, who wants more than just a close-up glimpse or an autograph from the stars , he wants the clothes off their backs ! Brian Barnes, promoter and publicis t for the Wash ougal National Motocross Track in Washington, has a collection of famou s motocross rid ers' jerseys that would make most autograph collectors sha ke with ,envy. H 16 " I started collecting the jerseys in 1980, and 1 believe 1 have about 320 jerseys now . T he first jersey 1 ever got was Broc Glover's, then 1 got Johnny O 'Mara 's, Mark Barn ett 's and Jeff Ward's, all at the Seattle Supercross," Barnes said.. ''' T he one most special to me is Bob Hannah 's number four jersey. 1 got it in 1984 followi ng his last ride o n a Yamaha, which happened to be a t Washougal. Someon e a ctuall y offered me $500 for that jersey, but 1 wo u ld never sell it, or an yone o f them. "The jersey that 1 don't have tha t 1 want most is Brad Lackey's 1982 World Cham p ionship-winnin g jersey when he was with Suzu ki. 1 also want one of Roger DeCoster's and Trampas Parker's World Champions h ip jerseys a n d a Bob H a n n ah number one jersey." Barn es says he currently has 25 National and World Championsh ip number one jerseys in his collection. Also incl uded in his stockpile are jerseys from World Champions Eric Geboers, Georges jobe, Andre Malherbe, Jean-Michel Bayle, Graham Noyce, Donny Schmit and Davey Strijbos. Barnes recently acq u ired jerseys from some of Australia 's top motocro ss racers, such as Craig Dack and Peter Melton . _ After more than 10 years of collect- ing jerseys, Barnes has decided to pan company with his prize possession and do na te it to the AMA Moto rcycle H eritage Museum, wh ich rece ntly opened in Westerville, Ohio. " I felt it would be better to have them viewed by people ra ther tha n having i them all boxed up in my attic," saidJ Barnes. . ~ H owever, according to the AMA, there is no set date yet when the jerse'y collection will be put on display.
