Neitzel unstoppable atGremlin GP By David Procida SAN BERNARDINO, CA, SEPT. 30 Ken Neitzel ca me from dead last to fin ish first place in the Int ermediates and second overa ll In California Racin g Club 's Grem li n Gra n Prix. The Pro a nd Intermediat es were featured in race nu mb er three. instead of the usual last race o f th e da y, a nd were tr eated to a reason abl y smooth , but demanding Gl en Helen course. When the Intermediat e's line was nagged to sta rt, it was Neitzel wh o was firs t to fire a nd jammed into turn one ahead of the pa ck. Broads liding hi s Kawasak i sideways into turn two was Neitzel 's first mistake. as the track had j ust been watered mak in g it muddy and slippery. As the pac k motored by Neitzel, Ram on Nori ega and Tim May were a t the head of the other riders and battl ing for the lead pos ition. Neitzel had quickl y pi cked up his Kawasaki and cha rged up through the pack and by midra ce had tucked in beh ind the pair who were too bu sy with each other to notice Neitzel approa ch ing. Neitzel tucked under Mayas they entered th e s u pe rcross-sty le whoops leading .to Ani ma l Leap and took over second pl ace, but it took two mor e laps before he had a sho t at No riega, Noriega had coun tered every one of Neitzel' s a ttem p ts to take away the lead until he ap proac hed the back strai~h taway. It was do or die tim e. as far as Neitzel was concerned, as he shi fted up to fifth and pulled a longs ide of Noriega in the whoops a nd proceeded 10 pull away, taki ng the lead as they came to the sharp right-hander at the end of the straightaway. Donald Jacks entered three races at Moroso Motorsports Park and dom inated all thr ee th e 50 Mil e Solo GTO race, the $1000 Shootout and the Unli mi ted GP feature at the AM AlCCS Florida Series even t, At the drop of the green flag that sta rted the 50 Mile Solo GT race, J acks was the last bike thr ough turn five, but by the end of the second lap he was in fourth, havinl: passed 28 other rid ers, Rick Herdon led the first three laps, but Mark Foster and Rick Sha w got by on lap four . Jacks caught up to Herndon and moved into third and on lap seven he pa ssed Shaw and set his sights on Foster , who had built up a six-second lead . At th e rate of two seconds per lap, it didn't take J acks long to catch Foster. He hooked up with him on lap 10 and on lap 14 took the lead for good. Jacks led by 10 seconds when the checkered na g came ou t. Foster 's bike suffered a spu n bearing on the last lap, but he was able to hold onto second. Campbell crushes Perris M otocross By David Procida PERRIS, CA, ocr. 7 After taking some tim e off to work on the T or0ta Stadium Truck Team, Todd Campbel returned to MX racing a t Perri s Raceway and ca me from the back of the pack to win both 125cc Intermediate motos, When the gat e fell for rnoto one, Ken Neitzel sho t ou t of his starting slot with the rest of the pa ck hot on h is heels. As the riders bumped and pu shed in a congested tum on e, Scott Murphy came ou t on the short end of the stick and took an early soil sample. Com ing up from a bad start was Campbell and, except for Murphy, he had the entire pack in front of him. Campbell q uickly ca ugh t up with the tail end of the class. Jason Simmons was Campbell's first victim, but he put up a valian t effort that lasted over half of th e rnoto. Ca mpbell used a jump that followed a tight corn er to Ily past Simmons, who took the inside line and pulled off a block pass to stay in fron t, Campbell made it successfull y. pas t Simmon s on the following lap and set out after the next rider. With only two laps rema in ing in the rnoto Campbell finall y caug h t the lead bike of Kelly Pichel and took the lead on the white nag lap and held on to the fin ish . In moto two it was Pichel with the hol eshot a nd Ca mp bell on ce again at the rear of the pa ck, but thi s tim e it only took him two laps to find his way through the riders and in to second Ca mpbell pulled alongside of Pich el down a straig h t a nd ou t-braked him as the two entered the foll owing corner. 'Westcott, Guyot take Red River Trials By R. D. Allman MUENSTER, TX. ocr. 6-7 .TimWestcoll and Allen G uyot each won class honors at rounds three and four of the United Slates Central Regional Trials Championship held at Red River MIC Park. The event tS part of an ei~ht-round series featuring the best trials riders In the midwest and is sanctioned by U.S.C.T.A. Fantic-mounted Westcott used consistent rides to win overall Expert class honors for the weekend as he placed second Saturday to T odd Freeze by the narrowest of margins. Each rider turned In a score of 81, but when the tie was broken it was Freeze on top . On Sunday Westcott easily defeated Freeze but fin ished second to smooth riding Sam Erikson. Total points for the two-day event gave WeslCottthe. overa ll win with Freeze second. In the Master class, Kansas rider Guyot turned in narrow two -point victories both days, topping Oklahoma Shan Moore by two points for the class win . Ronnie Niccum waged a fierce battle with Richard Billings for the th ird slot with Bill ings in th ird on Saturday and Niccum taking the show spo t on Sunday. Sunday's sections provided lots of excitement for the man y spec tators on hand as th e .Master riders were forced up steep rock steps and down hugh drop-offs, but the riders proved they were up to the task as spectacular rides were turned in by Guyot, Moore, Billings and Niccum.
