The excitement started in the first Open
hea t with Phil Lash and Rich Hird swapping
places every lap. La sh sealed the Win by .
pu tting a lapped rider between him and Hird
In the th ird comer of the last lap. There was
more action in the Iirst lap of the second heat
when several riders went down. forcing a
restart. Pat terson got the j um p and led all the
way, foll owed by Tom Doh erty.
The Open mai n saw Patterson, Las h, and
Bill Snyder arrive at the first com er in un ison.
It was sorted ou t by Patterson pulling ah ead
of Lash. Snyder had his hands full with
Doh erty, who cut a wide swath through the
pack and event ua lly displ aced Snyd er on la p
five. The fin ish was then set with Lash second
and Doh erty third.
The 250cc main had Lash and Patterson
at it aga in. but thi s tim e Lash pulled awa y
to fini sh first with a haH lap lead Patterson
duked it out with Dave Barkley, who used
hi s experience to get by to take second by a
couple of bik e lengths.
In the Vintage main, John Fike was first
off the lin e with Bill Snyder and Gerry Slover
right behind. Snyder moved up to run wheel
to wheel with Fike until the fifth lap, when
Snyder took the lead for good. Slover dropped
to fourth behind Ron Nocktonick. .
