In California, Lib ertarian Party candida te Arthur Olivi er, is seeking a seat in the state's Assembly from the 54th district. Olivier , a resident of Bellfl ow er, has unveiled a political pl atform th at lists battling mandatory helmet law s and land clos ures as two of its top priori ties. . , In Illinois, John Lund is hoping to un seat an incumben t in the sta te's IOlst Republican Distri ct. Lund, a Decatur motorcycle dealer, is best known to local riders for his efforts to open public riding areas. . In Maryland, James Harkins is looking' forward to a trip to th e statecapitol in, Annapolis. Harkins, a republ ican from Whiteford, is campaigning for the House of Delegates in di strict 35-A. Har kin s is an avid motor cyclist and teach es ATV and motorcycle training courses in hi s spare time. In New H am psh ire, Rep ubl ican Sherm Packard is a candidate for the House of Represen ta tives in the 23rd dis trict. If elected, Packard, an activist for the New Hampshire Motorcyclists Rights Organization who hails from Londonderry, says he wou ld like to serve o n the House Transportation Committee. And in Utah , J im Billingsley is running for a seat in the House of Represen tatives fr om the 27th distr ict as a L ibertarian Part y candida te. Bill ingsley, from Sa lt Lake City , says he decided to get involved in po litics so he co uld help' defend the righ ts of Utah mo torcyclists. . In addit io n to th ese AMA candidates, Republ ican Lowell Landowski is running for the U.S. H ouse of Representat ives in Ca liforn ia 's 3rd Congr essional Distri ct. Landowski, from Sacramento, has served as a staff member of the California O ffHighway Veh icle Recrea tion Commission for the past nine years, all the wh ile showing su pport of off-highway recreation use. Du ring that time, he gai ned insight into OHV p lan ning, as well as experience in environmental an d land use issues. '~These candida tes have tru ly demonstrated th eir dedicat ion to preserving mQtorcycling in their respective sta tes, and we owe the m a great deal of gratitu de," says Robert Rasor , AMA vice president of government rela tio ns.
