T he fir st 30+ moto saw Starnes sett ing the pace with Ri ck Catuccio next w hile the Suzukis of Stuart En glish a Dd Denis H ilt on diced for third. Sta rn es opened a ga p o n th e pac k as Hillon PUl o n a charg e lhal moved h im pa sl English a nd u p o n Caluccio 's rear fend er. Starnes scor ed a comfortable win wi th H ilt on p ush ing past Catucci o for seco nd. English and Tim Julian rounded o ut the top five. Mot a two left lhe line with Slarnes on ce aga in o ut fro n t only to wash o u t and drop 10 fourth. Hilton and English began a fierce battle fo r the lea d u ntil Starnes showed up a nd powere d past fo r th e win. Hilto n finished a close second ove r English a nd Ca luccio. Starnes was hoping to keep his sweep goi ng in the 25+ class and shced his way past ] De Norder an d ] ay H ouser to take the lead. Wit h two laps to go i t was Hause r who played the spoiler a nd ducked under Starnes to ta ke the wi n. Starnes fell but regai ned his composure to finish second ahead of David Eller and Dean H errin wi th J im my Joh nson fift h . Kipp had th e very potent Dutch ma n Suzuki GSX R l loo to log a few break in mil es after a fresh mo tor rebu ild by tuner/ owner Dave Schlosse r. Schlosser had spent the week developing th e work in conju nc tion with a new type of Wiseco pi ston, head work and lar ger carbs. According lO Kipp, th ese were beneficial in ge tting seven or eigh t mor e horsepower to the ground o n th e top end while leaving th e bott om power a lo ne. It sho wed as Kipp was easily the class of the field in bot h races, even thou gh he softened the suspension for the bum py two-mile co urse a nd used.the sta nda rd stic ky Michel ins to whistl e veteran track observers with unheard- of lap tim es in the o ne-mi n u te I I-seco nd ran ge. It paid off handsomel y as Patterson rolled to wins in C Superbike via a disqual ified frontrunner (Chris Reiner); B Producti on Expert; second place C Production Expert and second place in B Superbike behind th e su perbikemotored Mark Heiser. MS, SEPT. 9 Dann y Mor gan scored the overall win in the Beginner class a t the Central Mississ ippi Motocross Association MX at Pearl. Morgan ba ltled with second overall Ru ssell Jones Jr. in both motos. Wh en the ga te dr o p ped o n th e fir st Beginner mo to, Jones went to the front exi ting the first turn . Daryl Honeycutt filed in behind Jones, closely fo llowed by Morgan, Rob Munroe, Terry T ynes, T odd Jackson and Mark Mihailoff. Morgan was shado wing J ones and they bega n to pull awa y fro m the rest of the field. Morgan held the power o n a second longer than J ones down the long back straightaway and took th e lead for good.
