The Int erstate will appeal to smaller riders sin ce it wei g hs 40 pounds less than the Aspencade and also fea tur es a lower; th inner seat. T he weight and cos t re d uc tio ns wer e achieved by ridding the Interstate of some of the Aspencade 's component s such as reverse gear, cru ise con tro l and on-b oard compressor; by sub stituting p assenger Ioo rp egs for th e us ua l floor boar ds; and by usin g a lighter, less-sophisticated audio system. The news at Honda isn 't limited to street bi kes. Back in Augu st , we showed you Honda's 1991 dirt bikes, but since then there has been one addition to that lin eup - the revised XR600. Honda 's largest-di splacement dirt bike now features 43mm cartridge for ks with 11.6 inc hes of travel, larger diameter rear shoc k with an integra l reservoir offering 11.2 inches of tra vel, r~ar disc brake, redesign ed muffler for impro ved midran ge power, shorter swinga rm for quicker steering and wider Ioot pegs. T he XR600 will be available in Novem ber for $3698. An o p tiona l performa nce kit is said to boost the fou r-stroke single 's displacement to 628cc and increase horsepower by 25%. Many mo torcycli st s h av e fond memories of the venerable CT70, and Honda is reintrodu cing thi s affordable ($1198) street-lega l trail bike for the first time. since 1982. The Z50 ($898) mini-bike also returns to th e fold after a one-year absen ce, with a new paint scheme simi lar to the XRs. T he Cub .($1498), a scooter tha t thinks it's a dirt bike (or vice-versa), rounds ou t Hon da's sma ll-bore offering. ) Oth er models in Honda 's '91 lin eu p in clude the Shad ow VLX ($3798), wh ich is back follo wing a one-year absence with new blac k pai nt and engine centercases taken fro m the European -mod el Africa twin featuring intern al oi l passages; the Hawk CT, wh ich is unchanged save for its $300 pri ce cut ($3898); the VFR750, wh ich received new go ld wheels, Dunl op radial tires, handleb ars and swi tchgea r; yet kept the sam e pri ce tag ($6998); the CBR IOOOF, with new pa in t and switchge ar and a n unchanged ' price ($6998); and the STlIOO, with new paint, spring-loaded saddlebag door s, improved rubber trim and an urichan ged pri ce ($8998). ' Notably absent from Honda 's 1991 lin eup is the RC30, of which Hon da says they've sold what they p lanned to, plus the Pacific Coast, Transa lp , CBI, CB500 and NX famil y, of wh ich Hon da says there are pl enty of leftover models. In fact, H onda has slashed th e prices on many non- current models, so it may be wort h your while to check ou t what your dealer has left before you start droo lin g over wha t he 's got comi ng in.
