America 's weekly motorcycle newspaper Vo lume XXVII In response to the lett er writer from EI Paso, Texas: Who cares? What harsh a nd cruel words for a gr eat World Ch am pi on , Freddi e Spencer. My hat is off to all road racers who don th eir leathers, line up on the grid, and do battle o n the asphalt circui ts, regardless of what positi on th ey finish the race. All the se peop le are great in my opinion; there are so me just gr eater tha n o the rs. There is far more in this grea t sport th an meets the eye. It req u ires a lot of skill, desire a nd j ust plain gu ts. It takes far mor e th an just mo ney to motiva te these people. In the game of road racing, it takes love of the sport. As for Spencer being a " has been," we all will soo ner or la ter be in a position of bein g has-beens as we peak and fall in our average lives, bu t we should not give u p to it. I hope Freddie can make it back to the to p again. But if he should not, so be it. But Fredd ie is a special person and a great champion who will never be forgotten . Mich ael Klin ger. Roger DeCoster proved that, i addition to being a former Worl Champion, he also ha s what it tak in the race promoting department. I is so refreshing to know that Mr DeCoster is trying to bring to th e U.S a 500cc G P th at the riders , fans an everyone involved can be proud of without having one eye solidly glue on th e profit margin. In his first tim out, I'd say he did one hell of a job. Along with th e best Grand Pri racing I'v e seen in years, th e vin tag racing was a much needed blast-from the-past. Watching OJ' J ohn " Th Flyin g Hawai ian " DeSot o, "Tom my hawk" Cro ft, and " Bad" Brad Lack ey to name a few, blast the berms 0 vin tage bikes was unreal. It is als wo rt h no tin g that Goat Breker , as wei as clai mi ng th e vi ntage vic to ry prep ped the GP track all weekend an found ti me to promote a local race a h is Perri s facility Sat urday night. See ya nex t year! - William Drake Aberdeen. MS On the corner Appreciated support I' d like to put m y two cents in abo ut race wo rkers. It seems that ed itoria l policy ed its ou t most of the good comments a nd leaves in all the bad. Things lik e tha t mak e it all the more di fficult to ge t wor kers. Man y workers are true " race junkies" and are as happy as anyone to get some ink. (By the way ) we hav e materials tha t can/ do clean u p oi l/gas on wet or dry trac ks.
