II Bobby Schwam won the main event and tied for th e overa ll points total at the second round of th e 1990 National Qualifier Series a t Speed way USA. Schwam tied with Alan Christian for the overall points lead with on e even t remaining. The Qualifiers co nsist of a 24·rider field broken down into 18 individual heat races. Each rider participates in three heat races and tri es to earn enough points to ~et into th e semi- fina ls. There are four semis, with the winner of each goi ng to th e mai n event. After th e heat races had been completed Mik e Faria a nd Christian were tied with perfect nine point scores. There were few surprises in the semis wit h Schwartz, Ph il Collins, Faria and Christian transferring (Q the main with victories and Brad Oxley, Steve Lucero, Josh Larsen an d And y Northrup taking second p lace finis hes a nd movin g LO the consi. Bruce brothers topSME MX By James Jarman DILLW VA, JULY 8 YN, SME MX Pa rk was th e site for th e second and final race in the District 7 (Mary la nd) versus Distr ict 13 (Virginia) challenge cup. When a ll the points were tallied, D-13 had cu t its defici t in half bu t still lost the cup for the 14th year . To start moto o ne of the 60cc class it was Amber Hughes taking advantage of Bruce 's misdirection as he overshot the firs t tum and H ughes railed it perfec tly. Before the first lap Bruce caught up to Hughes and took over the lead through the whoops, but a few turns later .Bruce found himself o n th e ground, handing th e lead back to Hu gh es. Bruce fell again before catch ing back up to Hugh es and pa ssing her th rough the same wh oo ps as earlier but for good this tim e. Bruce took th e ooper, win over Hughes and GrCl: C In the second rnoto Bruce stayed in th e lead . Hughes got off to a bad start but found her way to second before the end of lap o ne. Bruce maintained a stead y pace to win the mot a over Hughes, and Josh Wood edged o ut Cooper for third. The 125cr C class star ted 0[£ with T res Bruce na iling the holeshot and leading int o the back sectio n. As the field reappeared it was Steven Eagl er th e new leader with Bruce second. Eagl er soon crashed, handing Bruce the lead. Robert J ohnson then moved in on Bruce, found a line around him and went o n to the win foll owed by Bruce and Brian Nast, At the start of moto two Bruce stormed 0 [£ the start again with the lead and never looked back , leadi ng from start to fini sh .
