Further back, Fisher was fighting to hold on to fourth as both Gene Naumec, who held fifth from the early going, and Johnson charged up from behind. Johnson got Naumec in his sights on the last lap and passed him, but the Kawasaki privateer stayed right with him to the end. They both finished right behind Fisher. " "I got tired the last four laps," said Naumec, who claims Connecticut as home in the summer and lives in Florida in the winter. ''I'm pretty confident I could've beat Johnson if I was in better shape. I was focused on Fisher, rode hard and got tired." Naumec finished 16th in the first moto after a crash and clutch problems.
