Last year you ha d a test ride in an AGS
Formula One car at Paul Ri car d. Was
it very different to driving other cars?
In a way" no. It is all a matter of
coordination and all racers have that ,
whether the y race cars or bik es. The
cars were hired bya group of Belgian
businessmen and they invited several
of us to try them. I believe I impressed
them.
Does car raci ng figure in your plans
for a career after motocross?
That would depend on what offers I
received. They would have to come to
me and make me an offer. Then I
would consider it.
When did you make the decision to
retire?
I had already decided at th e start of
the season th at I would reti re if I won
the World Championship aga in. 1£ I
, had ' not won . then I wo u ld hav e
cont inued for another year. I was
determined to try to go ou t wh ile I was
at the top.
In some ways it would have been
easier for me to quit last year after I
had fini shed third. Not so man y peopl e
would have asked so many question s,
but I was too pro ud to go ou t on a
low 'note.

Are you determined not to be tempted
into a comeback?
I do n' t want to commi t myself to
rac ing for a team week in , week ou t
for a comp lete year, but I still intend
to race individ ua l races which I enjoy.
I expec t that I will ride the Le Touq uet
and Scheveningen beach races, pos sibly also the 500cc Belgian MX GP at
Namur and even a few other CPs, but
I don 't want the pressure of a con trac t
to race every week. Alread y this year
I felt guilty a t times that I was
sometimes spending more tim e than
I ought to on my EC Events orga nization . There were times wh en I
turned up late for training, and I felt
bad abo u t th at becau se I was employed
by Honda to do a job.
Wha t machinery woul d you ride in
these even ts?
I hope that I can race Hondas. I have
had a long and good relationship with
. Honda a nd I wou ld like that ' to
continue. I think the fact that we had
a good relationship is even more
important than the fact that we have
been together for seven years.
Was ther e no in centive to go for Joel
Robert's record of six World tides?
Yes, of course. Bu t, as I said, I do n 't
feel ab le to commit myself to a full
season for a team. Perhaps I could still
end up racing 12 C Ps as individual
races next year !
Will you be expand ing EG Even ts?
Yes, but not in an y particular direction. We will be expanding our
involvem ent in triathalon, mountain
bik e events and motocross. We were
successfu l in our application to organize the European triathalon championship in Belgium in 1992.
You were invited to go roa d raci ng in
th e 250 team with Shimizu at th e end
of 1988 bu t decided to stay in mo tocross. Would you consider it again if
you got an offer?
For sure I would consider that if it was
