Stanton came into the final round with a slim , nine-point lead o ver Kawasak i's Jeff Ward and left with the series cha mpionsh ip in han d, seven' points up o n Ward . Ward , however, was the overa ll 250cc class win ner at the Boyesen Racing/ Scott USA/Dunlo p/ WAZU Radio-sponsor ed Nationa l with a 2-1 tally , while Stanton took second via a 1-3 score.
