Obvi o usly, th e longer yo u' re go in g to be a way from a rea l to ol bo x , like th e one in your pits, or a t yo u r van, th e more tool s yo u ' ll probably want 10 carry . But for now we' ll co nce ntra te o n yo ur "average" tw o-t o-three h our ride , a n d specifi ca lly so me o f th e typi cal problems yo u m ight encou nter on th e trail a nd ho w to fix th em . Probabl y the number o ne item yo u shou ld ca rry wi th yo u is a t least o ne spark p lug . Even if yo ur mot o rcycle T leVer fo ul s a p lug, it will th e o ne time wh en yo u' re th e farth est a way fro m yo u r ca m p. And don 't forget a spa rk p lu g wrench , on e tha t wi ll fit bot h th e p lug a nd th e space in side th e tigh t quarters bet ween th e cyli nde r h ead a n d th e gas la n k. C ha nging a tube o n the trail isn ' t tha t hi g o f a deal if you have th e ri ght tool s with yo u. If yo u pl an o n fix in g llar s o n the trail , yo u sh ould ca rr y lir e irons. C02 cart r idges (w ith a va lv e-st em adapter), a front in ner tube (a [ron t lube will u su a ll y work in either Iront or rear wheels in a pinch) a nd the p ro pe r wr en ch es. Obvious ly, inner lubes a re too bi g 10 fit inside mo st fannypacks , so it is best to wrap th e inner tube a ro und the fannypack stra p th at goes a ro u nd yo ur wai st, the n ta ke a narrow strip of duct ta pe and ta pe th e tw o floppy ends o f th e innertube together, so th e tube ca n 't fall off th e belt when yo u a re riding . If fixi ng a flat o n th e trail isn 't yo ur ha g that 's o kay, but yo u shou ld ca rry a h andful o f th ose big, g na rly, ind u str ial streng th l ip -ties. Wra p a t leas t six o r seven o f th ose beasts arou nd th e de fla ted lir e a nd th e rim , this will help prevent th e ti re from co m in g o ff the rim as you nurse your motorcycle back 10 cam p , R id in g'on th e rim is not o n ly hard to do , but it ca n easi ly t w eak th e rim . You sh ou ld periodicall y ch eck for broken lip-ti es a n d replace th em as yo u ride ba ck. A sma ll spoo l o f sa fety wire is a must in a fannypack .
