Americans sween French 125cc MX GP D onny Schmi t led an America n sweep of the top four positi ons at round four of the World Cham pi onship 125cc MX Series held J un e 10 in Ern ee, Fran ce. T he Suzuki rider won bo th motos, beating KTM 's Bob Moore in the firs t race and Moore's teamma te Mike Heal ey in moto two. Healey's thi rd in the first moto gave him second o vera ll, wh ile Tyson Voh la nd 's (Su z) 4-3 moto finis hes edged o ut Moore's 2-7 for the fina l pla ce on the rostrum. Schmit (rig h t) lead s H ealey in th e point standi ngs , 127-98, with Holland 's Pedro Tragter third with 90 points. Moor e is fourth with 86 po ints and Voh land lies fifth at 80. In round five of the World Championship 500cc MX Series in Vanta, Finland, American Billy Li les (Kaw) was second overa ll to Belgian Eric Geboers (H a n ), who swep t bo th motos. Dirk Geukens (Ho n) rounded out the top th ree. Lil es leads Geboers in the points sta ndings, 156-149. Italian Alessandro Puzar (Suz) conti nued his do mina nce in the 250cc G Ps with a doubl e moto win in rou nd six of the 250cc Worl d Cha mpionshi p MX Series in Markelo, Hollan d. Peter Dirkx (Ho n ) was second overall and Pekka Vehkon en (Yam) claimed third. Pu zar has a massive 82-point lead over Dave Strijbos, 210-128. Fr en chm an Jacky Vimo nd ha s retired from racing motocross at the ' age of 28. Vimond won th e 250cc World Cha mp io nship in 1986, but su ffered a serious back injury du ring a celebrat io n party shortly after he took th e titl e. After tak in g a year off to recover, Vimo nd returned to raci ng in 1988. " My doctor has advi sed me to quit as there is a real danger that I could be paral yzed if I crash badl y again ," said Vimond. " O ne of the vertebrae in my spine is out of place and the disc has already been com pressed. [ suspect that th e problem started after the fall in 1986, but my cras h in Nam ur, Belg ium, last year also probably contribu ted to it. " Belgian Andre Vromans will also be retiring from motocross at the June 24 5QOcc G P in Lommel, Belgium. Vromans, 34, is best known for his battle with American Brad' Lackey for the 1982 500cc World Championship. Lackey clinched the titl e a t the last round in Luxembourg wh en Vrom ans forgot to turn at the second corner. Multi-time Supercross and Nati onal MX Champion Rick Johnson will be sig ning autographs at Penninsula Honda in Sunn yva le, Ca lifo rnia, June 16.
