Bayle spent three laps pass ing Cooper's Suzuki teammates, but once clear of Step henson and Antunez he quickly reeled in Cooper. Cooper a nd Ba yle battled for second until Bayle motored past o n the ninth lap, then a lap later he was cha llenging Vohl and a nd got by a t the 25-minute mark. " H e wa s coming a nd had a faster pace," said Voh land. " I fo llowed him and learned his lines. There was a coup le of places where I'd catch him, but the last couple of laps I j ust kept on ' pace. This is onl y m y fo u rt h Nationa l so I' m sti ll gaining expe rience." l As Bayle cruised to the win, Cooper made a late a ttack on Voh land but came' up a few bike lengths short a t the fini sh ' line. Antunez was a distan t fourth over Kiedrowski, Stephenson, Smith a nd Emig. Matiasevich , who appeared to lack drive in both motos, finished ninth as Kawasaki Team Green rider Jeremy McGrath shadowed him throughout ' the race and' had Hughes on his tail at the finish. Damon Bradshaw (8) led from start to finish in the second 250cc moto to clinch his first 250cc National overall victory. 250cc National , When the ga te dropped for the first moto Suzuki's Larry Ward sho t around the o utside of the sweeping first turn and led Kawasaki's J ohnn y O'Mara, J eff Ward, Suzuki's Ron Tiche nor a nd Mike La Rocco, Bradsh aw and Stanton down the first hill. Bradshaw moved up to fou rth as they began the seco nd lap whi le Larry Ward, O 'Mara a nd J eff Wa rd rode in tigh t form ation j ust ahead. On lap three , La rry Ward began to slow and both O'Mara and Jeff Ward go t by. O ne lap later J eff Ward was in the lead a nd pulli ng away . " I was gelling held back by O 'Mara and Larry War d and was rid in g stiff because I cou ldn 't see because of them ," sai d J eff Ward. "Then I swept o utside of O' Mara and he waved me on." Bradshaw .mo ved by the ra p id lyfadi ng Larry Ward, pa ssed O 'Mar a and . began clo sing on Jeff Ward . Just as he was gelling close Bradshaw nearly fell in a turn, saved it but went off the track and lost several seconds. O 'Mara held third until the halfway point of the 30-minute-plus-two lap moto when both LaRocco and Stanton went by. That was as far as O'Mara would slide as Yamaha's Doug Dubach Jeff Ward (3) won the first 250cc moto but couldn't catch Bradshaw in moto two, Third-place Jeff Stanton (I ) dogged Ward in moto two before dropping back.
