On lap seven, Price went ahea d to stay, al though Robert Lewis' washou t on the nex t trip aro und forced him to slow and a llo w Dorsey, Adams an d Har t 10 catch up, mak ing things interestin g for the rest of the race. During the 600cc .qualifier, Shipley's mach ine blew a fork seal. Kirk Hayes loaned Sh ipley his own bik e, whil e Hayes compe ted in the main o n George Ga lloway's Yamaha.
