Former 125cc Wo rld Champion' Dave Strijbos al so went out ea r ly as he missed th e five-second starting board, got off th e gate poorly without goggles and th en damaged hi s Kaw asaki in a co ll ision o n the fir st la p . . Puzar left the pack behind in mota two as he grabbed the hol esho t and scooted away to th e win. Former 250c c World Champion John van den Ber k moved to second early in th e race a nd finis hed 20 seconds behind , Van de n Ber k 's sixth in the first mo ta gave h im third overall, a nd a t the end o f the day h e h ad to he h elped off th e podi um due to a sore knee he injured the previo us week . H erri ng p assed Fa nton for fourth a t th e halfway point, h u t co u ld never reall y close in o n th ird-place Ro la n d Diepold. Pa rk er got off 10 a poor start b u t charged th rough th e pack a nd also passed Fanton la te in the ra ce to claim fifth a t th e finish .
