Despite a poor rid er turnout on this co ld da y, th e ac tion o n th e trac k was ho t, with Wash in g lOn's Mike Larson pulling off th e 250 a nd 125cc Expert class victories. Idaho 's La rry J ackson grabbed the first 125cc Expert moto win , bu t stepped o ff in th e seco nd, a llowing La rson to wi re the overall wi n. ~ Mike Larson (14) an d Larry Jackson (608) battle during 125cc Expert class action. La rson was the winner and h e al so topped th e 250cc Expert class. Del Sch n itzer (44) blasts into th e first turn at th e start of th e IT underneath win ne r Ch ris Ca rr (20) and ahead o f Troy N orris (85) and Randy Roose (67). Speedy Kell a nd Kit Far ley foug h t off J oel H uskey in th e th ird heat for the fin al heat transfer po sitions, whi le the semi mat ched up Kevin Bass, J eff Ann en, Chris Stal ey, Steve Libert y, and T om Sh ivers. In the Pro-Ani IT race, Bru ce Scon held off a fierce Todd Peugh for the victor y, Over $14,600 was on the line H 20 for the weekend 's riders, a nd th e winners sm iled broadl y as th ey ope ned their payout en velopes. Wash in gton 's Eddie Gerrish blazed through m e whoops in the first l25cc Interm edia te moto , dici ng it out wi th local riders Steve Saba la, Kris Wilk erson , and Shad Greear. Sa ba la and Gerrish battled throug h th e rnot o , with Sabala cras hi ng o ut lat e in th e mot o 10 score sixth . Saba la ra iled the second rnoto , pulling away from Ge rr ish a nd G reear, who fell victim to a quick zap by Jason Temple. Gerr ish ended u p with th e overa ll victory over Saba la a nd T emp le. Larson proved un beatable in th e 250cc Expert class, sailing 10 both mo to victories over loca l riders Mark O lberding and T rent H owie. Mar k H all domi nated th e Open Expert class over Jami e Steelsmith and Ph il Pru tsrna n, win ni ng both motos by over 20 seco nds, whi le Smith/Bomb Shelter's Derr ick Personeue hammered th e Over 25 Expert class, winnin g born motos over J ason Hawkes a nd Kurt " Psycho" Lee. Lee and Hawkes fought intensel y in the second moto until Lee cho ked in a corner a nd washed out. handing third over 10 Butch Veenstra. rr As me hea t races ended, m e skies ope ned up , soaking the track, riders, a nd fans. The rai n turned to hail, transforming th e IT track into an iceska ting rink. As the storm aba ted. the track o fficia ls a llo wed cars and tru cks out onto the track in order to dry it o ut. After a ha lf-hour of th is, the track was good to go, a nd the 10 lap ProAm main began. J .P. Simonsen green-lig h ted ah ead of BBRP's Bruce Scott. Gordon Smith, Ken Wh eat on. T orn She rma n, a nd Todd Peugh. SCOl! quickly made a move aro u nd Sim o nsen , hut was unab le to pu ll aw a y. Sim u lta neo us ly, a n aggressive Peugh rocketed by Sherman and Whea ton. With in a lap, Wheaton took th e inside a nd di sp laced Peugh. Th e in cr ed ib le fight for the lead intensified until Simonsen and SCOLI flipped 0 [[ h is bike. TIie race was sto p ped a t thi s point. Aft er bc i n g a trend ed to by th e medi cs, Simonse n exp ressed hi s desire to co nt in ue. H is mech an ics repl aced th e trashed handl ebar s o n hi s bike within th e co n fin es o f th e grace period a nd the race restarted . Scott led the race, hut no w had 10 co n tend with the determined Peug h. T he remain ing five laps witnessed Peug h pressuring Scott, tryi ng unsuccessfully to mak e th e pass, a s Simon sen m ad e a trem endous charge from last pl ace to fourth behind Ken Wh ea ton. The break in th e weather cont inued a s the 15-lap J u n ior mai n go t underwa y.
