field taking the lead on the ninth lap

when he cras hed exiting a third gear
left-hand bend on the back part of the
course. After high-siding him, Shimizu 's Ajinom oto Honda co ntin ued
down the track for ano the r 50 yards
before Slicking itself into the foam
rubber barri ers o n the o utsi de of the
next right. Sh im izu had been riding
with severely skinned hands and had
said before th e race he wasn 't sure how
long he co uld hold o n. About nine
laps, it seemed.
Wh en Sh imizu crashed, Cadalora
took over the lead with Zeelenberg
seco nd, Cardu s th ird , a nd Sarro n

trailing that quartet by a few seconds.
It was Roth 's turn to go ou t next ,
gett ing flung 10 the ground o n the

Shimizu. Fir st h is machine, then the
man himself smac ked into the stacked
tires on the o utside of the run-off area.
After being carried away by corner
work ers, Roth walk ed back to the pi ts
under his o wn pow er.
By no w Cadal ora was cruis ing,
hold ing three seconds o n Cardus wh o
was at the front of the five-rider pack.
