. off with a bang as 282 riders from six sta tes

a nd won all four mor os in 125 and 250cc A
raci ng while North Carolina 's Ga ry Brown
fou~ht off cha lle nge rs to win the 125 and 250cc
B divisions.
T ommy Martin was expected to give Dukes
a run [or the mon ey i n A division raci ng bu t
Freewheeling Honda-backed Dukes easily
won eac h"time ou t while Martin cras hed in
three of th e four ou tings. Martin 's best finish
came in th e 125cc class where he pos ted 5·
2 scores , nettin g fourth overa ll. Martin DN F

sho u lder in a sp ill at th e start. Darry l Heisler
and Ro ss Johnston were th e ru n ners-up in
th e 125 a nd 250cc A classes, respectively.

Shue and Brandon Smith trade blow s in some
of th e day's 'best racing. Roswell Honda's
Brown showed th e way early in mot o one
w h ile G ear-back ed Smit h wrestled with
Fr eewheel ing H onda 's Sh ue for secon d
pos it ion. On lap two Smi th went down bri efly
a nd Sh ue moved up to pr essure Brown. Shue
even tua lly got by (OT th e win over Brown wh ile
Smi th remounted to fin ish th ird .

opening 250cc B mote and o nce agai n it was
Brown out front with Smit h knocking o n th e
door. This time, how ever, it was Brown 's turn
to do the soil-sampli ng as Brown dropped his
Honda in an orr-ca mber turn, leaving Sm ith
out fron t alo ne. Brow n was q uic kly un derway'
again and finished second behind Smith.

Dwayne Bone won th e o pen ing 85cc (14·
15) mota in a clo se co ntest over Nathan
Ramsey an d Scott Bryant. Bon e ran into
problems in mo ta two while Bryant sa iled to
th e win to net top gold o ver Ramsey.
