"The trac k was getting o ne- lined
and Dubach was ma king a lot of
mistakes o n the last lap," said Ward.
" I didn't want to ra m hi m beca use I
don 't want someone com ing after me
la ter in the seaso n, especially if I'm
in position for the cha mp io nship. I
cou ldn' t get by cleanly, so I just stayed
behind."
Kiedrow ski battled hi s way back to
claim sixth over O 'Mara. Fisher prevai led i n a late-ra ce battle w ith
T ich enor for eighth, and Cooper
rounded ou t th e top 10.

and Ty Davis fought for control o n
the firs t lap of the 125cc main, with
McGrath event ua lly taking comma nd.
Suzuki's Buddy Ant unez, wh o won th e
second heat, cras hed in th e first tum
but q uickly charged into the to p 10
in the early going.
Michael Crai g passed Davis near the
end of la p two, wit h Ryan H ughes also
closing on Davis. Bu t that 's all the
pa ssing there wo uld be at the front and
th e top four were set for the remainder
of the race as no o ne co uld make any
ground o n their foes.
" I pressed hard for the first few lap s,
and from the n o n paced myself," said
McG rath. " It's so much easier to win
fro m the front."
"It was just o ne of those days wh en
you can 't get anyt hi ng going," said
Davis, wh o won'the p revio us two 125cc
Western Regional mains. "The harder
I tried, the mor e mistakes I mad e. It 's
hard to stay o n top every weekend. "
Whil e the top four motored away,
there was some intense battling going
o n behind them as J eff Ernig, Jimmy
Button and Phil La wren ce disputed
fifth . Erni g's flight o ver the triples
event ually ga ve him th e ' position ,
whi le Lawrence fell trying to pass
Bu tton. Ant u nez came charging from
behi nd and pased Bu tton near th e end
to claim sixth at the finish. Button was

With Cooper back in th e pack, th e
top four spread out for the remainder
of the race. Kiedrowski made th ings
in teresting near the front when he
charged up and challenged Dubach for
several laps until Kiedrowski went
down.
" I was trying to get around Dubach
and we came into a comer where he
was going a bit slower," said Kiedrowski. " We tangled and I ended up
on the ground."
Kiedrowski lost four positions in the
fall as the battle consisting of Fisher;
Larry Ward and Tichenor, went by,
as well as O 'Mara, who was few
seconds behind.
Up front Matiasevich maintained
hi s four second ad vantage all the way
to the finish to clai m h is first-ever
250cc Camel Su percross win.
" Being up th ere befor e made the
di fferen ce," said Matias evich. ':(In
previous rounds) I'd ride well but if
I saw someo ne was catc hi ng me I'd get
a little nervous and start ridi ng to get
away fro m them ins tead of ri ding my
own race. I'v e been working on that.
I got out front and didn't worry abo u t
anyone. I just rode smooth, consistent,
and attacked the track from com er to
co mer.
" I' ve been working really tight with
my trainer Jeff Spen cer and my
mechanic Jerry Campbell. Wh en you
work tight with people and listen to
wha t they're sayi n g, things sta rt.
coming together."
Bayle finished second a few seconds
behind Matiasevich, while Stanton
finished a distant th ird, barely making
it across the finish line.
"The transmission blew up at th e
finish, right through the cases," said
Stanton. " I got lucky. The last two laps
were j us t a wing and a pra yer. I was
bab yin g it, just hoping it would get
th er e."
" I sta rted very bad ," said Frenchman
Bayle. " I tried to co me back very fast
