~ SUPERCROSS AM! Amateur Supercross Championship Series: Round3 ~ o 0") 0") ...... The 65cc (7-11) main event was held during the 250cc Camel Supcrcross halftime Saturday night. Billy Binckley (9) was the winner over Jimmy LaMastus. Warren Templar (82) leads winner Jason Schultz (55) in the l25cc Junior Division One feature race. Huffman, DIven, Binckley style in Seattle By Brian Barnes SEATTLE, WA, FEB. 17 onda -mo unt ed Ryan Huffman continued hi s rampage of th e National Amateur Supercross to ur at Seattle's Kingdome. The Um pqua Valley Pow er Sports/Scott USA/ AXO /PJ l/ Bar rs Competition /Bell rider dominated both the 125cc Intermediate and Youth (12-15) classes by winning his heats and mains. T eam Gr een's Danny Ulven finished second to Huffman for the second straight week in the 125cc Intermediates, but won the 250cc Intermediate class. Billy Binckley looked stro ng as he claimed th e 65cc (7-11) class, by finish in g fourth in the 85cc (7-11) class. Sea ttle was the th ird event of this yea r's Amateur Supercross Ser ies , whi ch attracted 338 riders from five H 44 western sta tes and Canada. Rid ers first too k pl ace in qualifiers that would determine starting pos it ions for the main, with th e fin al event coun ting for a ll the marbles. In the 65cc (7-11) class Bin ckley, aboa rd a Kawasaki, was the favorite to win the main event after ta king an easy heat race victor y. The five-lap final saw Jessy William s tak e th e hol eshot over Bin ckle y, Jimmy La mastu s, Cory Bauder, J ord en Sum p ter, Danny Smith and Andr ew Hannum. Will iams led Bin ckley for the first lap , with Lama stus a nd Baud er cl o se behind. But Binckl ey, like he did in the heat race, took over the lead and began a charge that left him far ahea d of the rest of the field. After William s enco u n tered p robl ems during th e second lap. dropping man y postions, Lamastus took o ver second behind Binckley, while Bauder, Sumpter and Smi th jammed through th e wh oops in a three-rider dice. By lap four it looked as if the top five would be set, but soo n after tak ing th e white flag. Bauder lost severa l po siti on s and LOok seven th , whil e Binckl ey went o n to smo ke th e field for th e win . Second went LO La mas tus wh o had a comfortable lead over the rest of the field. Smi th and Su mp ter held on for third and fourth, wh ile Robbi e R a tcliff a n d Ja son Dem psey moved up throu gh the field LO finish a respectable fifth a nd six th. T he 85cc (14-15) class looked LO be a Chad Reed affair, as the Kaw asaki rider dominated th e heat race from wire to wire, but Kawasaki rider Ben Rh oades stole th e lead after Reed took the hol eshot in th e main. Rh oades raced h is Kawasaki to a stro ng win over the field with Reed ta king second, after a heated battle with Vy-Lam Vgu yen, wh o was a lso on a Kawasak i. Destry Sco tt. Brad Boehm a n d H on da mounted Chris Paterson ro unded o ut the LOp six . The 125cc .Youth (12-15) class was' Huffman a ll th e way. Huffman is the o n ly rider to compete in all three ro unds of the Amat eur Series thus fa r, and he sports four win s and o ne seco nd pl ace. In Seatt le. Huffman led every lap of the heat and th e main. Suzukimounted Shawn Warin g . Honda pilot Kirk Moore, Su zuki rider Lou Cau lkins and Steve Saboda were seco nd through fifth in the end, wh ile Mike Sco tt was as high as fourth but ended up in sevent h. The event everyo ne look ed forward to was the 125cc Interm ediat es. with the ant ici pated sho wdo wn of the San Diego Amateur wi nner a nd runner-u p' Huffman. and Danny U lven. After Huffman 's sho rt-lived lead , Ulven ran away for the victory. As the main lined up, all eyes were foc used o n H uffm an . Huffm an strea ked arou nd th e corner in th e lead with Sha ne Don aca close behind him , whi le U lve n , Shaw n Lau er, Ri an C ant, Bill y Radcliff a nd the rest of th e field cleared th e first turn. Huffman , Ulven and Donaca were one- two-th ree for th e next seven laps LO th e checkered flag. Behind th e tOP th ree, though, a race-long battle between severa l racers kept th ings very interesting. Kawasaki rider Justin Homan mad e the big mo ve into fourth o n la p two . C ant, though, had o ther ideas, as he and Homan sw apped pos it io ns se vera l tim es th roughout th e race, but Homan 's persistence paid off in the end with fourth spo t. Suzuki-mounted Gant put in a strong race for fifth. Lauer, J erem y Albrecht, Ch ad Sch aff , Danny Fuhrmann and Rob Fla gler rounded out the top 10. The Plus 30 class was dominated by Brent Battin. The main event found Battin go ing wire-to-w ire for the win, but Don Schneider , J eff H anson , Randy Fisher and Brad William s put o n a g reat sho w th e enti re five-lap affa ir.
