~ TECHNICAL Vance &: Hines Yamaha FZR750R·R"OWOl Superbike ~ Accent on Su 0') 0') ........ er By Brian Catterson (Left) Vance &: Hines' Yamaha FlR750R-R OWOI superbikes will be ridden by David Sadowski and Thomas Stevens at Daytona and throughout the 1990 AMA National Superbike Championship. The brilliant magenta-and-yellow color scheme was specified by Yamaha in Japan, and required a few trips to the painter before a match was found; black-and-white photos don't do it justice. (Below left ) Five-valve percylinder Yamaha Genesis engine produces approximately 130 hp. Standard Yamaha EXUP electronically-controlled exhaust power valve mates with Vance &: Hines-built header and muffler, Note trick details such as custom-fabricated dual aluminum radiators and water-cooled oil £ilter collar. (Below) New V&:H crew chief Steve J ohnson is a perfectionist, and the bikes he prepares reflect his high standards. The owors tip the scales right at the AMA's new 370 lb. minimum weight limit, and do so without any titanium. Sadowski's mount (sho wn here ) reportedly attained speeds of over 175 mph during Da ytona testing, and turned quick lap times in the 1:55-range. (Left) Aluminum swingarm is a one-off works Yamaha part. (The stocker has no external bracing.) It's coupled with a remote reservoir Ohlins shock. (Above) Longer clutch actuating arm is from Yamaha's superbike bodywork kit, which also includes such parts as the lightweight fairing and tailpiece. 30
