Ty Davis (26) led the pack from start to finish in the 125cc main. Jeremy McGrath (125) passed Steve Lamson (29) to finish second. Doug Dubach fell in the first turn then crashed again as he t ried to move up. Many riders went down on the t ricky course. Jeff Ward crashed in the same place as Dubach but ended up under his bike. Ward remounted and finished 15th. 8 250 Main Bradshaw exited the first turn with the main event lead as Matiasevich , J eff Ward, Stanton, Larry Ward, Matson, Kehoe and Kiedrowski filed in behind. Dubach, who is normally at th e front of th e pack at the start , went down in th e first turn and remounted last. . " I had a good start but collided with another rid er," said Dubach. " I tried to work back up but cras hed again." Halfwa y into th e fir st lap Tichenor crashed in th e middle of th e pa ck and O 'Mara ran into him. " I almost had the holeshot , but Dubach put me into th e hay bal es," sa id O 'Mara. " T h en Ti ch enor endoed and I had nowhere to go, I just jumped into hi s bike." Matiasevich dogged Bradshaw for two laps th en moved into the lead over a tab letop jump. Bradshaw stayed close behind a nd two la ps later repass ed Matiasevich over th e same tabl etop jump. Jeff Ward was only a couple of seconds behi nd wit h Stanton and Larry Ward breathing down hi s jersey, and th e trio left th e rest of the pack behind. Bradshaw led for a lap a fte r pa ssing Matias evich , th en th e tabl etop jump bit him. There was a small jump pr eceeding the tabl eto p th at rid ers were usin g to launch o nto th e top of the tabl etop. Bradshaw got ou t of sha pe over th e sma ll first jump, and with legs nailing in the air crashed on th e plateau of the tab letop. Bradshaw scrambled back up to his bike, but pulled off after the finis h line jump du e to th e pain in his foot . " He was taking th e inside lin e and it had a little rut you had to hit just right," said Matiasevich. " I don't wish bad luck on anyone, but I knew he was going down sooner or later," Stanton said. " He was just riding right on that edge. It's too bad it happened." Wit h Bradshaw gone, J eff Ward charged up ' to Matiasevich 's rear fender, but just over a lap later Ward stepped off over a jump. Ward's Kawasaki chased hi m down and landed on h im, bu t he got up quickly and rode his bent bike to 15th . That put Stanton within sight of the leader, and he q uickly closed in for the kill. " I kn ew I could do it once I reached seco nd ," said Stanton, " I knew Matiasevich would wear out. " Larry Ward still held third a few seconds behind Stanton, while Kiedrowski was further back in fourth. LaRocco had charged up to fifth earl y in the race, while Johnson was further back in sixth. Cooper was on th e move in seventh while Fisher, O'Mara and Matson rounded out th e top 10 near the halfway point. After following Mati as evich closely for two laps, Stanton made his move and did it over th e tabl etop Jump. "He took the o utside and tried to ra il it , I just sat down and hopped. over it," said Stanton. " I kept using th e o utside because I didn't want to ri sk cras h ing," Matiasevich said. Matiasevich kept tab s o n Stanton for severa l laps while Larry Ward was slo wly gaining from third. La Roc co closed in on Kiedrowski, but lapped riders held him up and he dropped back. Lapped riders al so becam e a problem for Matias evich, particularly . Matson, who wasn't moving over for a ny of the leading pack. "T he la ppers are bad , th ey'r e not getting out of th e way," said Matiasevich. " T hey're definitel y hurting me." Mati asevich had a run in with a lapped rider th e previous week as well. When Matiasevich got held up Stanton go t awa y. Lar ry Ward al so moved in o n Matiasevich 's rear fender, but th en go t held up himself and Kiedro wski charged into Ward's tracks. La Rocco was close beh ind in fifth and the four riders had a close race to the fin ish . . Stanton crossed the line with a five second cushion and was relieved to . have wo n his firs t race of the year . " I had problems wit h the pressure of holding the number one p la te, but I knew once .I .co uld get out th ere and get rolling it would be fun ," said Stanton. " It takes the pressure off and now I have more confidence; it 's just like winning my first race last year." . Kiedrowski passed Larry Ward with two laps to go and quickly moved in on Matiasevich. Bu t Kiedrowski couldn't set Matiasevich up at the tabletop on the last lap because of Pederson 's crash and had to settle for third j ust ahead of Ward and La Rocco . . "T he last two laps there was a yellow nag before the finish," said Kiedrowski. " H e was going to the o utside and I knew I could jum p inside, but there was no way to get around with th e yellow nags." . Although Larry Ward fi nished fourth he was still happy. ''I' m o nly six points o ut," he said. " I was trying not to cras h, I wanted to stay up. But I do need to hang it out and go' for it, but not to the point wh ere I end up in the hospital." La Rocco was fifth while O'Mara, although sixth, was also p leased with his ride . " I just kept charging to sixth," O'Mara said. " I feel I can win one of th ese, I just need some luck to go my way for once. But I' m happy with sixth, that keeps me in the points race." Cooper passed J ohnson late in the race to claim seventh, Fisher finished ninth and Tichenor completed the top 10. " I fell once when th e front end washed out and that got me mad enough to charge," said Cooper. " I haven 't been charging, and when I felL I decided to let it o u t. I made it a goal to catch Johnson." " I never had a drive," said former cham p Johnson. " I tried to push and co uldn ' t go. I tried to put in a week of hard training, but you ca n 't ge t enough progress in a week." . . 125 Main T y Davis put his privateer Honda into the lead at the stan of the main ahead of Steve Lamson, heat two winner J erem y McGrath and Chris Young. H eat on e winner Michael Crai g got away eig hth. Da vi s, Lam son and McGrath form ed a tight group up front and quickly left th e pack behind. By th e time Craig reached fourth'on lap six, th e top three w ere gon e. Yo ung fell back in th e pack and first Kyle Lewis then Western Regional points leader Buddy Antunez moved in close to Craig. Antunez fell, lost a position, then fell again late in the ra ce and finis hed 11th. Up front Davis was steadily building h is lead and stre tched it to as much as seven seconds . McG ra th continuall y dogged Lamson until he got by at the finis h lin e on the 10th lap. From there the order remained the same as Davis backed off slightly and beat McGrath by four seconds. Lamson was a distant third, Craig finished fourth and Lewis claimed fifth . "Someo ne was pressu ring me near the begi nning, but I just stuck to my li nes and concentrated on being co nsistent, doing everything perfectly," sai d Davis.
