Tom my Clo wers smoked th e rest o f the field in th e first 125cc Intermed iat e d ivision one class m o to , but had to work h is wa y past Donald Upto n a nd earl y leader T ige r Garcia. J oel Albrecht su ffered a poor start, bu t -worked his way into seco nd by the m ot a 's end. Clowers took the chec kered flag 12 seco nds a head of Alb recht, U p to n a n d G arcia. Seco nd-moto ac tio n saw Albrecht come a live, as h e a n d C lo wers engaged in a heated duel th at carrie d th em far ahead o f th e pack. T he two T eam Green rid ers traded the lead a few times, but Alb recht crossed the fin ish line first. Cl o wers was seco nd a hea d o f a h ard -chargin g J eff G ra fton. At one point Nat vig overtook Wiggins, bu t m is to ok the w hite fl a g for th e chec kers and pulled o ff the trac k. Wiggins co nti n ued o n, while Natvig rea lized his mistake in time to retain seco n d pl ace. Raymond Anthon y a nd Chris Ridgeway foll ow ed th e lead p air across th e fini sh line. Moto two saw Wiggins repeat hi s Iirst-rn ot o holeshot, with Ridgeway, J oe Bruce a nd Natvig in tow. Natvig blast ed into seco n d, but ra n o u t o f time before he co u ld fin d a way p ast Wiggins. Clo wers and Alb recht carried th eir ba tt le into th e 250cc Intermeidat e di vision one race. Albrech t topped Clowers and Raym ond Anthony in th e first m ot o , but Clo wers roared back with a vengeance in mo to two to ta ke th e win over Albrech t a n d Anth on y. Cl owers ' 2- 1 to p ped Albrecht's 1-2 for th e overall whil e Anthony's 3-3 was u ncontested for th ird overa ll. Nat vig m ade u p for h is seco n d overa ll in th e 125cc class by touncing th e co m pe titio n in the 250cc. Intermedi ate division two class. Natvig so u n d ly bea t Dan Ulven a nd Eddie Reed across th e line in m o to one, th en won by a co mforta ble margin in moto two while Reed bea t Ul ven for seco nd. Vet P ro ' class ac tio n saw Kenn y Zahrt g ra b yet a no the r h ol esho t a hea d o f Ron T u rner, Pete Mu rray a nd T im Lunde. Mu rray wasted no tim e. a nd cu rved past Turner a n d Zahrt. Murray took th e win with a co m fortable lead over T urner, Lunde and Clark J ones. Murra y took a n early lead in mo to two and hid from the competi tio n.· Beh ind him Turner and Rex Sta ten swa pped p o siti on s wi th T urner co m ing ou t o n top. Murray topped th e field ' wi th h is I-I score whi le Turner's 2-2 ga ve him seco nd over Lunde's 3-5. In 80cc Intermedi a te class racing Mik e Metzger took th e first m ot a win a fter sta rt in g in fourth pl ace behind Terry Lee Parsons, J ason Partridge a nd Sha ne Esp osi to. Metzger buz zed th rough th e pack a nd obtai ned th e lead just past th e halfwa y po int, a nd led Partridge, Esposito and Parsons across th e line. Metzger grabbed th e hol esh ot in moto two, a nd it looked to be a ll over ' for th e co m p etitio n. H ow ever , a run in wi th Part rid ge o n th e first lap left Metzger on th e grou nd and in last p lace , while Part ridge led Esposi to a nd Parsons. Metzger rem ounted a nd rode li ke a you ng man possessed. With two laps to go Metzger had ' stormed through the p ack a nd was stuck to Partridge's rear fender. T im e ra n o ut though a nd Part rid ge took the mo to win a nd th e overall vict ory a hea d o f Metzg er a n d Ru ss Ande rso n. Ma x Sp ra tt ro mped on th e co m p e ti ti ion in the 250cc Beg inn er di visio n o ne class. Sp ra tt led Mike Horton an d Donald Coyler across th e fin ish line in m oto o ne with a su bs ta n tia l lead. Moto tw o sa w Sp ra tt duplicate his fir st -mote performance, bea ting R ick Davis and J ohn Lombarod: J ay Biery grabbed th e holesho t in the fir st Old Timer Intermediate class mot o but Leroy Sm ith qu ickly tractored his bi g H onda in to th e lead. Gary Do gge tt th en o pe ned hi s Su zuki up a nd passed both Bier y a nd Sm ith for the lead. Doggett led Biery a nd a weary Smith to the checkered flag. Sm ith grabbed th e hol esh ot in the seco nd rno to, but Doggett sto le th e lead o n a downhill an d never looked back. Biery worked past Sm ith in th e . lat er stages o f th e moto. Mercedes G onzalez co ntin ued h er reign of terror in th e Women 's P ro class as she posted perfect I-I scores to secure th e o vera ll win. Ka ty Senger was seco nd overa ll with a 2-3 sco re, an d J eannie Pruitt was third with her 5-2 ta lly. Brend Nuttall d om in a ted th e Women 's Sportsman class much in th e way th at G onzal ez did' th e Pro s. Nu tta ll took both mOlOSa hea d of KO Halfh ill , while Jeanette H ow ell and Maria G onzalez tra ded positi ons in both mo tos.
