Hoeft pulled away from th e field, and by th e third lap McGra th moved lO fourth pl ace, McG rath p ushed by Mood y, then slid out in the very' next tu rn . McG ra th remounted in sixt h a n d mounted a cha rge tha t br ought him u p to th e leaders in two la ps. McGra th sho t by Moody then blaz ed to within two seco nds of Chamberlain. At th e fini sh ii was Hoeft with a co mfor ta ble live-second lead, with Ch amberla in second and McGrath th ird . In th e seco nd mot a Hoe ft once again p ulled the hole shot . Hoeft a nd Ca rlis le came into the second turn side by side, wi th Carlisle co ming o ut of the turn fi rst. Hoe ft held tight to seco nd as a Ireig fu trian of C hamber lai n, Mike Dunlap, and McG rath ap proa ched. Out fro nt Car lisle bui lt u p a live-seco nd lead. By the sixt h lap McG rath slid by Chamber lai n, the n rail ed around Hoeft. With in one lap McG rath th en caught and passed Carl isle. Carlis le bega n to fade and Hoe ft closed a nd stuck a wheel in side and made th e pass.
