DEALER INQUIRIESINVITED A visit from Saint Motorcyclist A rider's parody on Clement Moore's classic By William Edgar 'T was that time 'round Christmas, when all through th e land Us riders were gi ving, 'cause we give a damn; Our cycles th ey were decorated with Holiday green s, It was another big Toy Run, on our dazzling machines; Each motor was revving a nd voi cing it s song, While visions o f roa d-racing went right a lo ng; With flat-track a nd tri al s and motocross too , T h ose events th a t we'd seen a t o ur New Year's venue, When a bo ve th e long h ighwa y th ere arose suc h a roar, I stra ined to see what was there, wa it ing in store. T hen aw ay to o ur destination I flew in a bo lt , Sca red by what Is a w, and that a in' t no joke! While the su n bea med down its wintry ra ys, T ha t sig ht I'll rememberfor the rest of my days. There in th e blue was this marvel for tykes, A sleig h fu ll of toys, pulled by eigh t Superbikes, The leader was a cha m p so torquey a nd quick I knew in a m oment this was amazin gly trick. More rapid than Law son a n d Parker he ca me, And he h ooted a nd holl ered, call in g th e rest by name: " Now, H arley! now, H onda ! now, Ducati and Kawi! On, Beem er! on Su zi! on Yamaha and Guzzi ! . T o th e top of th e rostrum, to th e top of th e wall ! Now race away, ra ce aw ay , race awa y all!" As dry tires that before th e record lap fly, When th ey me et with a back marker, mount to th e sky, So off to th e Toy Run th ose wind ra cers th ey flew, . J oining us with stu ffed T eddies, - a nd St. Mot or cycli st too. And th en in a fli cking I sa w on th e curve, The slid ing and dicing of eac h steely ner ve. As I got off th e ga s, a n d was turning a ro u nd , Down th e road came that tri ckster , what an aw esome so u nd! H e was dressed in full leathers from h elmet to hooves, And hi s kn ees were all ragged from chewin' th e grooves; A prize bag of toys h e h ad flung on his back , And h e looked like a winner leading that pack. H is eyes h ow th ey glisten ed ! his vic tory so sweet! H is gl ov es were aflame, he knew not defeat; His ch a m p ion's grin was drawn up like a bow, Arid th e grime on his face was as thick as hi s so le. T he wings of a trophy he h eld tight in his teeth , And th e laurels 'ro u n d his h ead served as a wreath. H e had a young smile and trim athlete 's fram e That h eld firm wh en he la ughed, h e was no shame . H e wa s healthy a nd so lid, - a' right bulletproof dude, And I jumped, when I saw him , if even it was rude. A wink of his eye and a twi st of his wri st, Soon gave me to know I had no more to list. He spoke not a word, but went straight to his joys, And fill ed th e kids' arms with marvelous toys , Then laying hi s glove aside of his nose, And popping a wh eel ie, into the air he ros e. H e throttled his mount, and to his team gave a cry, And away they all rode like the swiftest bye-bye; But I h eard him exclaim , ere he raced off with ch eer, " H ap py Riding to all, and to all a Good Year! "
