Second rou nd actio n fo u nd most riders agreei ng that th e track was becom ing very technical since th e su rface was going away, Bo rgman sai d , " You need a good start o r it's follow th e leader. My tire s ha ve cu t throug h th e ice severa l tim es." Cur ry agreed th at th e track left littl e to be desi red but understood it was ou t· of th e p romoter 's contro l. "They did a gr eat job pa tch ing with the thi n ice they had," he sa id. Curry a n d Lilt pos ted secon d ro und wins with Mortensen and Canadian j on j en sen also scoring heat win s. Bo th Mortensen and j ensen outdistanced stiff co m pe tition whi le p icking up their wins. Ro u nd three featured th e only fals e start of both nights o f acti on in th e first event as Venegas busted the ta pe and was disqual ified , leaving Bo rgman to tak e th e win. H in sley won the second even t from beh ind wh ile Cu rry blitzed event three a nd Lilt agai n loo ked stro ng to tak e home event four. Three riders agai n tra nsf ered from the fin al Last Ch ange Qualifier a nd Borgman wouldn ' t be denied th ewin as he led the six-rider field from sta rt to fini sh . Ri ck Webb from Col orado finished seco nd with Ven abl es tak i ng 'th e last tran sfer a h ea d o f Morten sen . With the fin al a nd th e N orth American Ice Sp eedw ay Ch ampionship on th e line, all six riders looked pensive as they lined up to push -start the ir machines. Cu rry occupied th e po le for th e main by virt ue o f h is pe rfect score for th e nigh t a nd as the gate drop ped he sped into the lead . However Lin crashed hard , brin ging o u t the red flag and a restart. C urry o nce aga in took the hol esho t wi th Borgma n , La zo r an d Vena bles ' in tow. Curry kep t on th e gas a nd stre tche d o u t hs lead over a gr eat duel between Bor gman a nd Lazor. After Cu rr y crossed th e fin ish line first with hi s fro n t wheel in th e air, he th en acknowledged the cro wd . with a victo ry lap a nd a h uge victory celebratio n smile.
