USA Funnybike Champion Vince Testa, on the Vincent Engineering Kawasaki entry, went to the finals by defeating Bill Vose of Lazer Porting in Philadelphia. Amos Brown of Cleveland defeated John Sachs of Ft. Lauderdale to meet up with Ralph Smith of Tampa, Florida. Smith had downed Terry Stonecipher, Loris Buckner and Willie Foster before breaking and handing T esta the bye run into the Superfinal against Superfuel Pushrod Harley winner Dave Bartley. Bartley ' had defeated Marion Owens for the Superfuel Pushrod crown earlier in the da y. Testa, on a Kawa saki, was dialed, turning his best time of 7.72 seconds to Bartley's 9.15-second run ; after a solid launch by both riders, Bartley's engine exploded giving the win to Testa. Pro Stock Eliminator provided the throng of Gainesville spectators with the tightest competition and fastest speeds of a ny Pro Stock event. J on Meyers of Alabama cloc ke d. th e q u ick est time and fastes t speed o f any P ro Stock in the sport's history. In round one, Meyers started his march to the title with a win over the Guy G uaragna Suzuki 'Ka ta n a , 7.8 11 172.21 to 8.13/160.48. Next up was the Ben Mens/Wardell Da n ie ls match-up with Mens advancing with a 7.95/167.75 to 10.74/83 win. Jim Hayden advanced over a broken down Don Turck ; Paul Gast topped a red-lighting Keith Gray with Gast running a 7.95/164.20; Russ Nyberg on hi s Kaw asak i 1500 topped the 1394cc Kawa saki Ninj a o f Don Shaw 8.00/166.29 to 8.66/1 54. In round two, Meyers turned in a 7.82-second so lo run whil e Cast kn ocked off th e Nyberg entry 7.91/166.17 to 8.00/ 166.17; Men s then kn ock ed off Jim Hayen in a sq uea ker, 8.014/168.72 to 8.055/161.37. In th e Sem i, Gast received th e free ride into th e final while Meyers knocked o u t Men s, 7.84/171.16 to 7.98/166. 57. In th e final , Meyers gated better than Gast, .454-.846, and clock ed a 7.78/173.31 to Cast's 7.98/ 163.487 to take th e Pro Sto ck title. Pro Street, Dragbike! USA's exclu sive, no-wheel ie-bar class, was a wild affair. In round one, Larry Wallace of Geor gia cruised to victory wh en Wes Nyce's 1198cc Suzuki broke. Don Chang of Florida beat eng ine builder and teammate Joe Franco with a gate-job , .567-739, a nd slower 9.11/145.09 to Franco's better 9.01/ 157.95. Another Floridian Pierre Elliott recorded a fin e 8.58/161.37 in a solo run over a broken Bill Vose; and world record holder Steve Moore of New Mexico defeated Philad elphian Sam Parks and his Suzuki, 8.56/154.77 to 8.9 1/151.48. The second round .saw· the Chang Gang Kaw asaki upset th e record holding Moore entry with an 8.94/ 144.60 as Moore expe rienced difficulties . Elliott sto p pe d Wallace, 8.53/ 162.36 to 8.84/1 52.05, settin~ up a Suzuki/Kawasaki conf ro nta tio n.
