By Mickey Wood Photos by Dave Vinson SUNNYMEAD, CA, NOV . 5 Dean Biddle made his trek from Seattle, Washi ngton, to southern California's DeAnza Cycle Park pay off in a big way today by winning the CZ Open Stock class at this year's running of the CZ World Championships. The race was hosted by SMX and sponsored by Rick Nabers and the SoCaI CZ Club. The ann ua l event attract ed 60 CZ and vintage en tries, . desp it e h eav y co m peti tio n from o ther maj or even ts in th e area. Biddl e had no problems in eit her of his Open Stock rnotos, leading each from sta rt to finish over Las Vegas resident J im Keeton , while Rick Diekm ann went 4-3 to claim third overall. To comp leme nt hi s overa ll victory , Biddle fini shed third in th e CZ 250cc Modified race and fifth in the Open Vin tage divi sion. In th e past, the Open Modified class was the one to win, but declining entries and a move toward stock motor cycles hav e made th e Stoc k class more compe titive. Keeton cla imed th e Open Modified win with a 2-1 tally after first-mot o winner Lee H oi th experie nced bik e trouble in race two. Gl endal e, Cal if orn ia ' s John Co ur ts mastered both mot os of th e CZ 250cc Modified divi sion, besting Keeton 's 2-3 and Biddl e's 4-2 moto scores. Bob Barnett ca me in fourth overa ll with a 3-4. T he CZ 250cc Stock class saw Ken Green e ace both rnotos over Chuck McConnell , wh o tra ded hi s usual Husqvarna mount for a five-speed CZ, toda y. Lanny J ay and Mik e Aldric h traded th ird-place finishes with Aldric h tak ing th e tie-breaker and third overall. O pen Vintage, wh ich featured all br ands o f motorcycles , had th e lar gest turnout with 19 entries. Matt Hilgenberg ca me from third at the start of moto one to pass early leader J ohn McM an awa y and N orm Bigelow for th e victory. Bigelow also passed a slo wing Mclvlanaw ay to take seco nd in th e moto. Biddl e was fourth with Thomas Engelhardt fifth . In th e. second' race, Hilgenb erg ga ted poorly but moved up fro m just outside the top 10 on the opening lap to overta ke the leaders on th e fourth go-around and claim th e Gary Moore piloted a BSA 650cc twin in the Open Vintage class. overall win on hi s Speed & Sport! Moto one saw Beck ride to a welldeser ved win o ver McM an away, H onda rider Kevin Akrey, Blair Risnes and CZ p ilo t T err y Pratt. Beck suffered a last-place start in race two, then sliced th rough tra ffic, eventua ll y se tt ling i nto seco nd pl ace. H owever, he cou ldn' t get to Akrey, wh o topped th e m oto . · C h uc k McConnell (who cra shed after colliding with Akrey in mo to one), Bul taco-m ounted Eric Goo selaw and McManaway ro unded out the top five. Beck's 1-2 gave him the day's overa ll ahead of Akrey, McMan away and H on da rid er Risn es. Only three 125cc Vin tage riders sho wed up and Norm Bigelo w went home th e winner aboard a rotaryval ve Kawas aki KX125.
