The supercross promoter 's group has reached a n agreement with ESPN 10 televise 16 one-hour programs o n a delayed basis next year. Four new venues have been added to th e seri es: the Rose Bowl in Pasaden a. California; th e Silver Bowl in Las Vegas. Nevada; Su llivan Stadium in Foxborough, Massach usetts; a nd Charlotte Mem orial Stadium in North Ca ro lina. A supercross amateu r prog ram w ill be in place in 1990. The AMAsanctioned Amateur Supercross Series will be an added feat ure at most venues host ing Camel Supercross events. "It's probably the single most important step forward the sport could take at th is time, " said ,S u p e r S p o rt s President Bill West. "For some t ime now, there's been a growing concern over the la c k of any kind of program to motivate, train and develop new young riders. We're in the process of putting it all together so it can be im p le m e nt e d int o next year's schedule ." The a m a t e ur events will take place the day after t h e Coors Extra Gold Super Challeng e races at all but a few designated venues on the 1990 Camel Supercross schedule . According to MTEG's DeStefano, portions of the amateur events w ill be in c lu d e d in the ESPN television package. Finally, a points system is being devised and a season finale for to p points w inners is planned for the Los Angeles Memor ial Col iseum where the Camel Supercross Serie s fina le is scheduled for June 23 .
