Devil 's Bowl. T erry Poovey, from nearby Dall as/Ft. Worth Metroplex area , looked at th is as a n inv asion of hi s territory and went abou t the task of bea ting th e California rider. Each race was to be a hard fou ght battl e. Poo vey won h is heat and Carr won hi s. The Cash Dash wa s to be the fir st battle between the two rid ers, a nd a determ in ed Poo vey bea t Carr off the sta rti ng line a nd led all th e way to la ke th e wi n with Carr beside him the entire race. Nei ther rider ga ve an inch or made a mista ke, As th ey lin ed up for the main, a bo n us of $500 went to th e first Harl ey-Davidson rid er co urtesy of th e Harley Owners G roup. Both Carr and Poov ey were riding Harleys, plus severa l fans p ut up extra cash for Poo vey to beat Carr. Wh en th e n ag dropped, Poov ey bea t Ca rr into the first comer. For AA rider Arthur, the challenges from other rid ers co ntin ued all da y lon g. At th e end of the first 12-mil e loop, only 14 seconds separated Arthur from Derek Kutcher a nd Andrew Williams. The actio n stayed close until about rmd -race when Wllhams look a hard fall while Kutcher seemed to run out of steam. T akin!,! up the slack and moving up to within sm king range was jeff Blankenship on a YZI25 Yamaha and 1988 Series Grand Champion Roland Kin g. King, who carne to the race with an injured leg, decided to use his head in stead of hi s throule to pr otect his current ~inl.S lead and backed off th e gas near the fm ish to ensure he placed hi gh enough to gain valuable . points. Meanwhile Blankenship was runn in g a ll out and was steadily gaining on Arthur by th e end of th e five-lap even t, But tim e ran out and Arthur managed to keep the pace up long eno ugh to lak e the checkers a long with 3 prize of new boo ts and a set of tires. Blankenship held o n for seco nd overall less than a mi n ute behi nd wh ile Kin g held o n for th ird.
