(1) ..0 8 (1) ;> o Z Accord ing to Terry Vance, who for many years has 'been associated with Suzuki, the Vance & Hines AMA Superbike team will campaign Yamahas and not Suzukis in 1990. "It's true, " Vance said when questioned about the rumor on Monday, October 23. "It's a long-term, smoking dea l ." Vance went on to say that Vance & Hines Yamaha have no firm p lans yet rega rding riders, but will decide by December. The Vance/Yamaha ag ree ment also came about t o give Yama ha S upersport bi ke custome rs a p lace to go in the aftermarket , much l i k e the Suzuki /Yoshimura li nk . As f ar as drag raci ng goes, multi -time champion Vance said: "That's how we started and we will stay involved . We just have to figure out how we want to position it. The road racing effort is our major concern at this point." Vance said the deal with Yamaha was finalized on Wednesday, October 18. The Vance & Hines ag reem ent with Yamaha a p pare ntly leav es T eam MotoSport without support in 1990. The team of Ri ch Arnaiz and Phil Kress rode Yamahas in both th e AMA Superbike Championship a nd th e AMA/CCS Endurance Series in 1989 wi th Arnaiz fini shi ng third in the Superbike title ch ase; the team is cu rren tly fifth in the endurance ch a m pio ns h i p with o ne round remainin g. According to a press release from Yamaha Motor Co rp, U .S.A., long -time race team manager Ken Clark has left the company. "As a resu lt of a recent Yamaha Racing Department restructuring, Ken Clark, after 13 years of spearheading Yamaha 's racing efforts, will be leavi ng the com pany to pursue other interests." Roy, w ho completed the 1059 miles in 11 hours and 59 m inutes, t opped Sha un Crane (Suz) and Steve Losofsky (BMW) . Jerry Shore, owner of American Motocross Enterprises (A M E), di ed as a result of a heart attack on Sunday, October 15. Shore and AME were known for the Friday races they co nducted at Indian Dunes in southern California. Funeral services were conducted in Palmdale, California, on October 20 . Roger Edmondson, head of the AMA Championship Cup Series, called to inform us that entries for t he October 27-29 Race of Cham pions at Daytona In ternationa l Speedway are closed. A team of six American r oad racers has been named to compete in the annual Macau Gran Prix, a race through the streets of the Portuguese territory which is locat ed near Hong Kong on the mainland of China. Last year's Macau Gran Prix was won by Pepsi Suzuki's Kevin Schwantz. Led by team manager Henry DeGouw, Larry Shorts, M ike Harth, Donald Jacks, Pau l Bray, John As hmead and Danny Roberts will take part in the November 25-26 race meet. Bishop, 36, died on Saturday, October 14, from inj u ries suffered in a street-bike acci dent. Bishop was service manager of B&B Cycle Shop in Mansfield, Oh io, and wa s an avid racer, competing in the AHRMA Vintage GP Two-Stroke class. He is survived by his w ife Elaine, daughters Melinda and Laura, his parents, two brothers and two sisters, an _ materna l grandmother, all of~ Mansfield.
