Earlier in the day, Hall set a new trac k record in the A Superbike race . His la p time of I :38.48 bettered a three-year-o ld record se t by Pat H ernon a t 1:39 .74 o n a T eam Hammer Endurance bik e. It was th e fourth record of the year for th e Dave Zupan-tuned Yamaha - two for H all and two for Fenwick. Yamaha contingency money wa s up for g ra bs a t Indy a n d with Yam aha money up for grabs, th e C Superbike race was th e best of th e day. Kevin Rentzell jumped out to a n early lead o n ly to be chased down by Scott Zampach . It th en became a two-bike race for th e lead , with Zampach sho wi ng a wh eel here a nd th ere, bu t never a ble to pull a clean pass. The race became even mor e heat ed wh en Tom Kipp pulled a way from Bill y Eisenacher a nd ca ug h t the lead ers wit h two laps left. Rentzell nearl y ran off th e track wh en he hit a lapped rider and the impact sent him into a ferocious tank sla p per. So me ho w, he managed to hold o n to the lead. On th e last lap, th e trio enco u ntered a no ther lapped rid er in th e sa me spo t, a nd thi s time Rentzell got by cleanly , but Zampa ch a nd Kipp had to let o ff th e th rottle for just a seco nd. You name the event; chances are the w inner was riding o n Dunlop tires . Just consider a few of Dunlop's latest tri umphs: 1989 Motocross Des Nations - Team USA; AMA' National MX Championship, 250cc - Jeff Stanto n ; New England Sports Committee MX Series, 125cc - Pat Barton; Unadilla US Grand Prix, 250cc - Ric k Johnson , 125cc Support - Jeff Stanton ; World FIM Championship, 250cc - Jean-Michel Bayle ; AMA National Championship MX Series, Binghamton, NY 500cc - Jeff Stan ton .. . a a ~. We could go o n and on (and we probably w ill). But the po int is, winning rac ers c hoose Dunlop , Because no matter what the terrain, th ey know Dunlop tires will give th em the right knobs to conque r any track. (112); 7 .
