Wayne Scott (573) and Zya Braun battled to second and third overall in the Super Mini class. Jason Fowler was the overall winner. M ickey Kessler (61) leads a 250cc Expert class charge to the second turn . Kessler was the overall winner and also won the Open Expert class. Sheak rolled to victory in the Schoolboy class a t th e 7th An nua l N ew York State MX Champ io n sh i p h eld a t Broome T ioga Spans Center. Sheak also finished fifth overa ll in th e 125cc Expe rt class. T he AMA -sanctioned , Coca 18 Cola /Scott US A/ MS R a cin g / Bo yesen / T subaki/Gear Racewear/ S I00 C lea ner/ Dy noport/ Wiseco/ T ony D MX , SchoollBridgestone/ Bel Ray-sponso red event was run over two days. All classes , except the expert s, raced two motos on Sa tu rday using the reg ular Broome T ioga track . On Su nday the fina l mo tos were ru n a lo ng wi th the Expert ' classes on th e tra ck recentl y used fo r th e Bin ghamton Nationa l. Results for a ll three motos cou nted towards the overall. T he n ex t positions weren't nearly' as clear cut. After Sat urday's motos Step hen McCabe was second ' w i th seven points, Da n Singer was third with e ig h t a nd J ason G rady a point behi nd in fourth. T he th ree were g u n ni ng for each other in the fina l mo to , an d Singer had th e wors t lu ck o f the grou p. H is ninth in th e final _mo to d ropped him to fou rth overa ll. McCabe held on to second and Grady moved into third o vera ll with a fourth in the mota. Sheak came back to lead the firs t moto of the I25cc Expert class as Rob Nessel , Bill y Silverole a nd Terry Kuhn foll owed. Nessel passed Sh eak a nd led for two la ps until he fell, giv ing th e lead back to the Schoolboy champ. Silverole moved in and tried to pass, but Sheak stayed ahead of him and won th e mot o . Nesse l recovered to claim third. In mo to two Pa ul H ilar io grabbed th e early lead but was soo n passed by Silverole. Bruce Stra tton was ma king up for a midpack start a nd too k over first when Silv erole fell in a tu rn on lap two. Si lvero le was u p q uickly and soo n dicing with Stratton for the lead. The battle lasted the rest of the moto, a nd six tu rns from th e finish Stratton went a litt le wide in a turn. Silv erole used the opening to make a pass and the wi n was his. Sheak start ed last and af ter a fall ended th e mo to seventh. " Stra tton kept his eye on me and a lways knew where I was trying to pass him ," said Silverole Cycle/ T eam Green /Answer/Scott USA f P reci s io n P erfo r m a n ce/ D u nl o p / Factory Co nnection-supported Silvero le. " I fina lly got my wh eel ins ide him. It was a close race." After s tarti ng m idpa ck , Zegi n Braun rode to the win in all th ree 60cc (7- 11 yea r-old ) class motos, clearing a big tableto p j u mp a nd doing clickers a lo ng the way. Seco nd overa ll went to Casey Higgins wi th a 2-3-2 score. Ch ad Rockw ell added the New Yor k State Ch a mpionshi p in the 50cc class to his Pen nsyl van ia Sta te titl e with wins in a ll three mo tos. J amie Robinson tried but co uld n't match the champ 's pa ce and had to settle for second over J ason Antalek. T he Super Senior class saw riv als Erv Braun a nd Bru ce Stra tton do some serio us battling. Mo to o ne was Braun 's from th e start as Stratton didn 't do .the whoops as well a nd cou ld o nly stay close. Stra tto n ca me back to to p Braun in the seco nd mot a , despite some prob lems. " My pipe guard ca me loose and wedged in th e shi fter a nd foo tpeg," said Stratton. " I had to kick a t it to shift. " In the fin al mot o Braun hol esh ot bu t wi thin a la p Stra tto n was leading and pulling away . Strat to n gave up the lead to Braun whe n he sp u n o u t, but cha rged back from th ird to first in three laps. The Senior Expert class was a. two man d ue l between fri en ds Mike Robin son a nd Bart L ucas. Lucas was unlucky in moto o ne w he n h is Ioo tpeg fell o rr nea r th e sta rt. Rob inson took the win over Jerry Newb y. Rob in son started a hea d o f Newb y in mota two with L ucas a close thi rd. So on L ucas was second a nd on Robinson, a nd th e two battled for two la ps before Lucas sn uc k inside R?binson a nd motored aw a y to th e W in . T he final mo to was again led by Robinson and Newby while Lucas got a terrible sta rt and was last. Ho wever, by the end of th e second lap L ucas was up to second and ca tchi ng R ob inson. After a few serious pass attem p ts, Lucas got by whi le Robinson just needed to stay up a nd fini sh to take the class champions hip. That's exactly, wha t he di d and he took th e title. Lucas' first moto misha p left him the run ner-up, while New by took th ird in the fin al moto and th e sa me overa ll. J ason Fowler wo n the first Su pe r Min i (9-15) class mo to o ver Zya Braun and Ch ri s O rm e. Wayne Scott crashed hard bu t moved from last to fou rt h . O rme led mo to two until he fell. Sco tt took o ver but soo n Fowl er j u mped o u t front u ntil he fell too. T he lead was aga in Sco tt' s with Braun on his rear fender, but a t the wh ite nag Sco tt accidently pu lled off the track, giving Braun th e wi n. Fowler finished th ird. Fow ler blasted o u t to a IS-second wi n in th e fin al a hea d o f a battling Sco tt, Braun a nd Orme. Braun a nd SCOtt swi tched positions a number of times until Scott's chain ca me off and Braun, trying to avoid him , hit a tree. T ha t gave seco nd to Orme. The l 25cc Amate ur class ha d 52 en tr ies, a nd a t the end of Sa turday's - ra ces Ben Dressner was th e points lead er with two firsts while seco nd was a tie betw een Ben T rask and Sean Skutnik. The to p 40 lined up for th e fina l m ota a n d G ary Squ ier g ot th e hol esh ot. Dressner a nd Trask we're mired in traffi c a nd in last place was Skutnik. Sq uier took the wi re-toire win whil e S k u tni k s l iced th rough th e pack to 13th. T rask mad e it to six th wh en Dressner caugh t u p to him and th e two di ced , for the title. Trask wo n the battle, but Dressn er got th e title by two po ints. Mark Hopkins, wh o starte d th e fin al fifth in points, too k seco nd in th e mot o a nd tied Trask for po ints a nd was aw ar ded th e runner-up ti tle. Bri an Gundry was clearl y the 250cc Amateur class cha m p. After starting mi dpack in the first two motos he ca me back to wi n bo th races. . O u ndry had to fig ht off cha rges fro m Tom Co le in the last few laps o f th e fina l mot o, Col e tripled the fini sh line jumps, but Gu ndry wo ul d retake th e lead up th e hil l. • Results 50 : 1.
