Wh y in God 's name ca n' t o ur po liticia ns do som ethin g logical for once. We live in such a screwed up society it' s unbeli evab le. T he vario us helm et bills, for instan ce, are a good exa mple of th e asini ne thinking of our politicia ns. T hey're goi ng to save o urselves from ourselves, rig ht? Wh y do n 't th ey introduce a bill req uiring a nyo ne in any type of vehicle to wear a helmet? Probabl y beca use they wou ldn 't want to have to put on a helm et every ti me they ge t into their lim os. I hope all you readers o ut th ere do mo re th an read, a nd wr ite to your " elected" officials about a ny law yo u 're no t happy wit h. Sports Committee Dist rict 37 has rented the fairgrounds and after the hearing a fund- raising entertain men t program will be conducted and w ill be followed by a barbecue with the beef and lam b provided by th e H ig h Desert Cattlemen 's and California 1V00igrowers Asso ciati on s. Demonst rat ions of stadium motorcycle trials, rop ing, sheepdog trials and running of obstlUl es by 4X4 vehicles. w ill take pla ce in the fai rground arena from 5 to 6:30 p.m. , and the barbecue will follow. A donation of $35 per person (ch ildren under 15 free) is reques ted and all donations wi ll go directly to the Multip le-Use Advocates L egal Defense Fund to fig ht SII, HR 780 and to seek proper management for our desert tortoise . Reserved cam p ing at th e fairgrounds will be available for $i per ni ght. It's im perative that we turn ou t in large numbers as th e environmen talist groups are plann ing to do so. Petersen Publish·ing Co. will stop publishing Super/Moto Cross magazine after the December issue. Starting with the January 1990 issue. ' Super/Moto Cross magazine will be merged into Dirt Rider magazine in the form of a special section devoted to motocross that will contain 16 to 24 pages . Subscribers to the Petersen Motorcycle Group publication will be offered Dirt Rider or an extension on their existing Dirt Rider subscription. Citing a shortfall in advertiser support. Publisher Richard Lague said. "Our projections gave us little hope that the advertising picture would change . . . If market cond itions were to change. we would seriously consider a relaunch." Super/Moto Cross started as a bimonthly in 1988 and went monthly this year.
