The son of three-time World Champion Kenny Roberts gave everyone a scare when he was rushed to the hospital on . Thursday, September 14, near his northern California home . Roberts heard the news in Brazil and flew home prior to the Grand Prix. As it turned out, Kenny Jr. had a viral form of the disease and not the life-threatening ' bacterial form; he was released from the hospital on September 18. Originally the third round in the ser ies, it now becomes round 12. After Scott Parker wrapped up his second Grand National Championship/Camel Pro Series title, Bill Werner, who was enjoying his sixth title as crew chief, was asked if the achievements were becoming routine . "No, each one is great. But I don't think I'll ever experience another one like the t ime Jay (Springsteen) crashed in practice at Ascot and then came back to win the race and the title. That was the last race of the year and I had to talk Jay into racing after he crashed. I'll never forget that night. " In 1976, Springsteen and Harley-Davidson teammate Rex Beauchamp tangled on the backstraight at Ascot in practice and Springsteen suffered a dislocated finger. In the National final, he and Alex Jorgensen diced for the lead with Springer taking the win for the first of his three consecutive Grand National Championship titles. Werner also wrenched for Grand National Champion Gary Scott in 1975: Four-time World Champi on Edd ie Lawson a nd two -t im e Gra nd National Champion Ricky Graha m will com pete in a Superb ikers-styl e race in Paris, Fra nce, this com ing weekend. Graham and fellow Cam el Pro Series competitor Steve Morehead took part in similar races in France earlier this year. " It's an easy way to pick up some qu ick bu cks," sai d Morehead, "and the French guys really have th ei r ac t together in presen ting a sho w." According to his father Jim, road racer Kevin Schwantz is set to sign another contract with Suzuki for 1990. "He is going back to Suzuki," Jim Schwantz said on Thursday, September 28. "The contract has been sent to them for their approval." Schwantz had signed a letter of int ent with Giacomo Agostini in Brazil to ride Marlboro Yamahas in 1990. "Kevin wanted to ride Yamahas and have the opportunity .t o work with Kel (Carruthers - Marlboro Yamaha's crew chief), but we couldn't get a guarantee from Yamaha that we would get the best equipment.
