.-I .-I l-l V ..0 o .... u o Brian Roth (5R) tried to wrestle first from Scott McElroy in both 125cc Intermediate motes, but McElroy came out the winner with 1 -1 scores. David Keeney (1 K) leads overall winner Paul ita (5 7) and runner- up Jerry Harvey (1 6J) in the 60cc 9 -1 1 ye ar- old class. Keeney took third. chase and managed to pass Roth within a few laps. Roth, however , repassed the Suzuki-rider and took home the mo ta win. Kurt Kuhn was third. Round two saw a repeat performance by Roth who took co mmand early and never looked back. Roth cruised to an easy victory, followed by McElroy an d a hard dri ving Darren Gallagher. • Results Ito (5 7P) didn't do as well in the 80cc Open (9-11) class. Travis Preston (19T) took the ove rall win. Shipman sweeps Dixon Trans-Cal MX By Troy Scott DIXON, CA, SEPT . 23 Kawasaki-mounted Tony Shipman took the overall victory in the Vet Junior class during round four of the CMC/Dodge Truck Trans-Cal Series at Argyll Park via a perfect 1-1 score. In th e first rnoto, Shipman gra bbed th e holeshot and managed to hold the lead all th e 20 . way to th e finish. J ohn Traverso was second ahead of Curtis Dat chl er, J im Vivorio and Steve Dombo. Moto two was a little tougher for Ship man as he followed Traverso from th e sta rt. The two riders battled for nearly the entire moto until the next-to-last lap when Shipman was abl e to take the lead wh en Traverso popped out of his line. Traverso followed Shipman to the checkers where he again netted second ahead of Datchler, Vivorio and Dombo. Ch es terfi eld Suzuki's Rodney Smith ran aw ay with both 125cc Pro cla ss motos after solid starts in each race. Smith's win robbed Kawasaki's Tallon Vohland of taking wins in all three of the Pro classes, The only riders who were able 10 keep up wi th Sm ith 's pace were Vohland and Mike Pa scareIla a s . t.hey swa pped the runner-up posmon each li me out. Voh land, however, finis hed second with hi s 3·2 finishes wh ile Pascarella took hom e third overa ll with a 2-3 score. Vohland wasted little tim e with both motos of th e 500cc Pro class. Vohland took hi s Tea m G reenbacked Kawasaki to th e chec kers and received very little o ppos ition en route lO 'a I-I p o sting. H ondamounted Rex Staten nail ed down a solid second with a pair of runnerup positions, while J on Nelson took - home third with 4-3 moto placings. The 250cc Pro acti on proved 10 be a no ther Vohland show . Pascarella na iled the Iirst-moto holeshot and led briefly only to be out powered on the straights' by Vohland. It took Vohland a few laps to pass Pasca- rell a, but he finally managed to get by for th e number one positi on. Vohland 's lead , however, wa s short-lived, and by th e midway point he was back in second and crashing. Pascarella reclaim ed th e lead and went on to claim the win. Vohland held onto the number two spo t wh ile thi rd went to Suzuki-mounted Dean Mat son. MOIO two saw Voland out front q uic kly, a nd he ra pi dly built a 15second lead over event ua l ru nner-up Matson. Ka wa saki-m ounted Ray Crumb was third. In the BOcc Expert class Spud Walt ers took another runaway victory af ter swee pi ng both m o tos. Dann y Nel son too k h ome th e number two spot with a pair of second p lace finishes, while Suzukimo unted J esse J am es took th ird with a 4-3 tally. Sco tt McElroy and hi s H onda took com ma nd of both 125cc Intermediate m or os with out a ny probl ems. Kawasaki-mounted Brian Roth did hi s best to chase down McElroy, but j ust co uld n' t ca tch th e Honda rider by th e rno to's end and was forced to settle for second. Third overall went to Scott Schroeder for his consistent 4-4 effort . It seems as though Roth is not co n te n t with anything but first overall in th e 250cc Intermediate class a nd has accumulated quite a number of th em. Today was no different, and Roth took home the victory in convincing style. Moto one saw Roth out front by th e end of the sec o n d lap and gradually pull away from second place rider McElroy.
