Two Gold Wings now highlight Honda's touring lineup - th e same six-cy linder GLl500 that was introduced last year, and th e brand new, up-graded Go ld Wing SE. The SE feat ures a ll the 1990 ' upgrades th a t the standard GL receives such as a 36-month transferable, u nlimited-m ileage warranty ; carburetion, cam tim ing and intake system revisions, improved clu tch action, redu ced noise through transm ission a nd sha ft -drive u pda tes, increased shift lever throw, and new wine berry red and metallic light bl ue co lors. But the SE" features excl usiv e cha nges such as adjustab le and closeable windshield vent rou tes, two-way adjustable passenger foo tpegs, foot warming system channels, integrated cornering lights, fu llyilluminated handlebar and radio swi tches, a rear spoiler mounted running lig ht / sto p ligh t, a seat cover with its own pouch, a 25-watt audio system with self-load in g cassette mechanism and a new two-tone pearl white paint schem e. The standard Gold Wing features th e same pr ice tag as th e 1989 model - $11,498. The SE will carry a suggested retail price of $13,498. The CBR I OOOF (fo r me rl y th e Hurrican e) returns to th e U.S. in 1990. The 1000 was sold in Europe last yea r, but was not brought stateside. The 998cc DOHC in-line, four- cylinder pow ered spo rt bike will carry a suggested reta il pri ce of $7598. H onda's Pacific Coast returns in 1990 in search of its ni ch e in the motor cycle marketplace. The Pacific Coast features some 62 improvements including: a taller, redesigned windshield; numerous fit a nd fini sh improvemen ts; a more accurate fuel ga uge; and a new candy red pain t scheme. Honda fans will appreciate the CB R600F 's increased horsepower - now at 93 hp - gained mostly through revised pistons, exhaust system , cam timing, and carburetion boost. The CBR600 al so utilizes a heavy-duty clutch, a redesigned floating-type shift shaft and modified shift fork , re vised ignition advance, and new pearl whi te or black /red paint and graphics. Claimed dry weight is 414 po unds. More good news is the price - th e 600 will retail for the same price as its ยท1989 sibling at $4998. Retu rning with .minor changes to H o nda 's street bike lineup is the Hawk GT , th e Transalp, the GB500 (wi th a price reduction of $500), the CBI (with a price redu ction of $400), the VTR250, and the two NXs - the 250 and 125. The newest entry in Honda's o rrroad attack is the Cub, a futuristi clooking, 90cc air-cooled, two-stroke single-cylinder bik e aimed directl y a t the en try-level, enthusiast-to-be. The Cub features a reed-valve engine that uses a safety-start system that won 't allow start up unless th e rear brake is applied and th e kicksta nd is full y retr acted , an electric sta rter, oil-inj ecti on , a u to ma tic choke, variabl e-ration a u to ma tic transmission, a primary dri ve belt co n verter a nd enclosed cha in, a clutch system tha t au to ma tica lly a pp lies engine braking a t speeds over 4 mph durin g deceler ati on , and CD! ign ition. The Cub's engine sits in a steel fram e; th e 27mm fork p rovides 3.9 in ch es of trav el up front with the sin gle rear shock giving 4.3 in ch es of rear wh eel tra vel. T he Cub, a lso positioned as a 1991 model and no t availableu n til March , features a sixmonth , un limited m ileage warranty. The Cub's price tag was not available at p resstim e.
