Klunder shot arou nd th e pack o n the high groov e to tak e th e lea d in tu rn o ne. Burke foll o wed close ly in secon d pl ace , with Kan nenb er g a bike length be h ind. Burke and Kann en ber g both m o tored u n de r neath Klunder, with Burk e tak in g th e l ead in tu rn three. At the end of the third lap, Bur ke, Kannenberg a nd Klunder crossed the sta rt / fin ish line th ree a breas t wit h Klu nd er p ulling a w ay to lea d in to t he fi r st co rner' a n d Ka nn enberg less than a wh eel behind. Bu rke and Kann en berg were ab le to pass on lap five with Burke i n the lead un til the wh ite-flag lap. Isaa cs ca me from nowhere o n the back str ai ght to br iefly tak e t he lead o n ly . to go high in th e last corn er and be repassed by Burke and Kannenberg, wh o raced to a dead hea t at th e finish line, followed clo sely b y Isaa cs and Klunder. Fifty-eig h t-yea r-o ld . Danny Deu bl er was th e first o ne m to th e fir st turn , o nly to be passed by J o hnn y Isaa cs in turn two. Norman Lehfeldt foll owed o n Deubl er 's rea r wheel for thi rd po sit ion. Deubler fought back to regain first o n lap three o nly to be pass ed aga in by Isaacs o n lap four. There were n u mer ous lead cha nges in laps five. six and seven as Deubl er and Isaacs bauled back a nd forth. . Deubler led in to th e first co ne r o f the last lap and th ro ug h th e second corne r wit h Isaa cs o n his rear whee l. Isaa cs used the draft to good advan tage as he was able to pa ss Deubler in corne r three to ga in a slig h t adva ntage whi ch he ca rr ied o n to the checkered flag. The seco nd da y o f raci ng brought more ent ra nts a nd a larger crowd . Beug 's lead was short-lived as Nesshoeffer passed o n lap fou r to take o ver th e top spo t wh ich he held until th e fin ish . Beu g was second, and Gar y Petti s took a close third. Lo u is Brech een had hi s CZ o n th e gas and was o n ly a cou ple of bik e len gths beh in d th e lead trio. Hilgenberg dogged th e CZ rider in every corner a nd p ull ed .a lo ngs ide Rob ertson on the ma in stra ig h taway, but the CZ pi lot had th e in side line and the lead fo r the first lap . Lee Fabry a nd Brech een had a dic e go ing for third b u t mov ing up thr ou gh th e pa ck was Chuck McCon nell on an o ld Hus ky. McConnell was being chased by Gary. Moo re o n a B50 MX BSA four-strok e. Brech een clos ed in o n th e top ride rs as th ey en tered lapped traffi c an d was o n th e rear o f Robert son . As th e rid ers ca me o ver a ju mp, two slo wer ride rs were o n the do wnside o f th e jump. Rob ert son ma naged to avo id th e ride rs, but Brech een cl ip ped the rear tire o f o ne o f th e back ma rkers, go ing do wn hard and knock ing th e wind o u t o f himself . U p at th e fron t, Hil genberg enjoyed a com forta ble lead and was styli ng of f th e jumps [or th e spectato rs. A sh ort d istance behind McConnell occupied seco nd as Rob enson dr opped o ff the pace a nd h ad th e co m pany of Ron Alri ch a nd Moo re.
