bounce all over the pl ace, but o ur modified machine soa ked up th e bumps muc h better wi thou t deflecting to either side. La ndings from jump s were smooth with th e modifi&i suspension, a nd sin ce the fro nt end was more co mpliant , the RM became much easier to man uveur through th e corners since it wasn' t always try ing 10 climb OUI of the berms as before. Wh a l also made it more fun , a nd m uch eas ier 10 ride were the mo to r modifications. The powerband was smoo th a nd broad yet sti tl retained som e of the thri lli ng mid range hi t, making it easy 10 just roll through th e turns wi thout keeping the engine on the pipe an d in the midra nge. T he motor p ulled much better off the bottom , so th ere was pl enty of power fo r exi ling such corners. We also found that the heavier flywh eel mad e sta lli ng th e engi ne when a pproaching corn ers on th e brak es nearl y non-exi sten t; the stock motor sta lled very easily under hard brak in g. We al so had the opport un ity to try o ne of Ans wer's new Variabl e Flow Control (VFC) silencers o n the Race Tech bike. T he VFC silence r uses a spri ng- loaded disc a t the exha ust open ing, and as engine rpm rises the di sc is pushed back to expose a la rger openi ng. It is al so severa l pounds ligh ter than the bu lky stock uni t a nd j ust as qu iet. An swer also supplied us with th eir Alurnilite handlebars, whi ch are much stro nge r than th e stock units. Low -end throttle resp onse was gr eatl y imp rov ed w ith th e VFC silencer, getti ng th e RM O UI of th e corn ers even quicker. Beyond that, ther e is no real not icea ble differen ce in power delivery. JU SI abou t any rid er ca n benefit fro m the Race T ech su spen sio n mod s, wh ile th e motor modifications are more up to individ ua l preference. The lazier rider who doesn 't wa nt to wo rry abou t constan tly keepin g th e engi ne in one narrow p ar t of th e powerba nd will be ha ppi est, th ough . And Race Tech 's modifications aren' t just limited 10 Suzu kis, eit her. Race Tech will modify almost a ny brand and model, and wi th most companies on ly slig h tly cha nging their mach in es from yea r to year any mo re, any brand ca n be kep t compe titi ve for another seaso n. ..
