Sprinkle reigns at LACR night MX By Terry Rezek PALMDALE, CA, J ULY 21 Rod Sprinkle is spe nd i ng hi s weekends productively - winning races . In th e 250ec Beginner div ision one class first moto 01 CRC's Friday night motocross at L.A. County Raceway, Sprinkle got a last place sta rt and spent th e en tire short mota moving up. At the checkered, he had com e all th e way to a very close third. Sprinkle got a mu ch bener sta rt in mot a two in third. th en he moved to seco nd in lap two and spe nt th e next three laps pre ssuring th e lead er. He lound th e needed opening, took the lead, and th e moto lor first overa ll. In th e 250cc Pro event, Kenny Zahrt took th e instant lead in moto o ne and was followed by J ell Mab ery. Mab ery pre ssured Zahrt lor two laps a nd bounced to th e lead in th e very deep wh oops that are a feature 01 the Friday ni ght races. Erick Hilton got pa st Mabery bnelly in lap seven but co uldn' t hold it a nd Mabery was soon back in the lead [or good. _ Mot e two was a lmost a repeat, excep t that . Calhoun dominates Perris MX By Donn Maeda PERRIS, CA, JULY 16 Suzuki-mounted Brian Calhoun managed to capture both the 125 and 250cc Intermediate classes at the third round 01the Dodge Trucksl CMC Summer Series at Perris Raceway. The SCR /MNFX /JT I EOl o Racing-sponsored rider turned. in four perfect mota finishes to claim hi s pair of overall wins. Ca lhoun holeshot the lirs t 250cc moto ahead of Doug Bowers , Sca n Sease and Steve n Kotajarvi, Gary Lacey was stuck back in seventh p lace , but by the third lap had worked his way IOtO fourth. As Calhoun began to open up a lead over Bowers and Sease, Lacey began to clos e th e gap between himself and the leaders. On lap live, Lacey ra iled th e o utside 01 a right- hand sweeper and passed Sease to take over third. La cey then reeled in Bowers, and bounced pa st th e Honda rider o n a wh ooped out stra igh ta wa y. Calhoun took an easy win, lollowed by Lace y, Bow ers and Sease.
