Despite making some " st up id mistakes," KTM 's Allen Gravitt finished fourth overall and moved into seve nth p lace in t he series' point sta nd ings. In his first ride after breaking three ribs and a collarbone, KTM's Kevin Hines took th ird overall; he is currently second in the po int standings. KTM rider George Wa ller, Jr. took f ifth overall at the Pole Pen Na tional Enduro, which marks the halfway po int of the season. FIM rules. You can alter the bikes in the FIM rules, mayb e I can petition the AMA to have the rule changed next year ." Another ISDE Trophy team member, Kawasaki 's Kurt Hough discussed his ride. "I didn 't have too good a morning. I dropped two points to Randy but in the afternoon I had picked up both points and everything was really going super. Randy and I were tied going into that last check. But I got within four miles of the final check and the bike was way down on power. I held it wide open and it just wouldn 't run. I was even pushing up som e of the hills, even if I had finished I would have been way off th e pace. The ai r filter was plugged solid and that ran the bike out of gas. I never got hot when the bike was running but when it quit I had to lay down." Kawasaki 's Jeff Fredette also had problems. " I hung my right foot under a tree root at high speed and wham, I thought it had jerked my foot right off. I. continued to ride another 20 miles but I cou ld see it wasn't going to work. It hurt when I put any weight on it. Then I found a mudhole; I'm not sure it was mud, seemed more like cement. I was there for about a half an hour. Rick Sharphorn (a double A rider from Michigan) was there too and we helped each other. I would still be th ere if it wasn't for Rick. " Martin Pruett in th e 250cc B class dropped 60 points for the High Point B trophy and instant A status, while Gw en Baily dropped 65 for th e Women's honor. " We couldn't do our job withou t th e support of the club members," Kurt Hough was in the hunt for the overall until the air filter in his Kawasaki clogged up, causing it to run out of gas j ust before the finish . said Lewis Whatley, club official. " I do want to thank them, they have kept the club strong. " • Results 0 / A : 1. Rand y Hawkins (Suz); 2. J eff Russell (Yam); 3. Kevi n Hines (KTM ); 4 . A llen Gravitt (KTM); 5.
