They propose to run a two -man 500cc G P team next year , promoting JeanP hillip Ruggia to the 500cc class, and retaining Christian Sarron for a 12th year, to help Ruggia find his feet. H owever, they obviously hadn 't to ld R uggia, who said separately tha t he may prefer to stay in th e 250cc class. It is also possibl e th at he is bein g head -hunted by a H onda team. Luca Cadalora. who will make his 500cc GP debut in the British GP at Donington Park. will ride a 250 there as well. The former 125cc World Champion. lagging in sixth in this year's 250cc Championship. will compete in both classes in bot h Eng land and Sweden. He says he wou ld like one more crack in t he 250cc class before moving up. bu t o nly a foo l turns down a facto ry 500cc ride. The 250 and 500cc G P riders met aft er the firs t day of French G P practice to discu ss wha t to do if it rained after th e start of the race - a n effort ( 0 avoi d a debacle simi lar to those of Belgium a nd Misano . They decided th at after one restart, in the event of more rain in a seco nd leg, that th e race should continue, and thos e wh o wished to pi t to change tires should do so. Oddly eno ugh , thi s was the same conclusion that th e FIM ca me to after the Belgian GP - what a pity they on ly did so after they'd al ready run a th ird leg. We should know the results of the Belgian GP less than a month after the event. First declared as an aggregate of three legs. then cut down by the jury to an aggregate of the first two. the results are still under protest. and awaiting the decision of an FIM-appointed tribunal. This is scheduled to sit on July 27. and will consist of the same three people who over-ruled the FIM jury decision to penalize riders who boycotted the Italian GP. The plaintiffs will also be represented by the same lawyer. But t he tribunal's decision may not be fina l - it can be protested. and will then come before the cent ra l committee ofthe FIM. The protesters are Team Lucky Strike Roberts and Team Sonauto Gauloises, and Team Roberts put out a statement quoting from their letter to the FIM. They were appealing on the basis of "natural justice." " It wa s th e FIM, through their offi cial , who started the race; and none of the riders wo uld hav e taken part if they had any idea th ey were n o t ra cing for ch a m p io n sh i p poi n ts," sai d Lucky Strike tea m manager Paul Butler. The decision co uld go on e of th ree ways. They cou ld ratify th e current results, aft er two legs; re-insta te th e first resul ts, aft er three legs; or discount the entire race for th e championsh ip, in which case th ey would probabl y pay prize mon ey on the basis of three legs. But if the decision goes agains t Wayn e Rainey's victory, Bu tler mean s to take th e matter to the lim it. " We mi ht consider a Civil actio n agains t the FIM for negligence; or even the Court of Human Rights," he said . : Team members for the U.S. Trophy and Jr. World teams have been selected for the 64th International Six Days Enduro in Walldurn, West Germany.
