Johnny Murphree (35KI pulled down four w ins in the 65 and 85cc (7 -11 I classes. w hile Beau Braswell (1 XI won all three 51 cc finals. Randy Buchanan/Yamaha of Flit/ Mike Stauffer-backed Rotax out front for the last two laps. Eric O'Boyle lurked in fourth behind Huff and Barrow. Price dominated the Open class, again leading every lap. John Lowe and Mark Bu tler held second and third a ll the way . Dallas Mayer passed Rob Wi lliams on the las t lap for fourth. T he O ver 30 class belonged LO form er Natio n al number ho lder Den n is Wi lliams and his Robbie Grief-sponsored Harley- Davidso n XR750. Dan Crawford took second over Steve Wilson and Mark Bu tler. The Over 40 class was red-flagged after a multi-rider pile up in turn one on the start. Five riders were unable to make the restart, but Greg JooP was the only rider needing medical attention and he walked to the ambu lance for his checkup. Sonny Bu rres got the holeshot on the restart bu t J ack Warren LOok over on la p two. T he two former National n umber ri ders p u lled away fro m the pack Warren held a steady lead and too k the win over Burres. Garry Hi te and Bill Snyder ba ttl ed over third and Snyder took over the spot on the final lap. Indiana's J.J. McDowell topped the 250cc Pro -Am class over Greg Sims. Sims then took the lead of the 500cc Pro-Am race from Tony Donahue and held on for the win. Donah ue was second. Bart Schrnulbach moved up to third only LO have his mount expire on the back straight and Bret Beyer in herited third over Aaro n Crocke tt, Sch m ulbach came back to lead the Open Pro- Am final until the halfway point when Donahue took over. Schmulbach held on to finish second with Greg Richards, o n the only 750, in third. Short Track Wednesday saw the action turn to the Peori a Speedway and cooler more pleasant weather was in SLOre for the large turnout of riders as they did bailie on the fast quarter mile. Bea u Braswell continued to hold the hot hand in the 5 lcc class, edging Brody Millerfor th e win. "I just kept it wide open. I was a li ttle worried about Brody," said Beau. Cowarding Jewelers/Westend Machine-sponsored Brian Strong led the 85cc Stock (12-15) final all the way, holding off a fast closing Kurt Kromroy for the win. The 65cc race saw Johnny Murphree run away from a war over second tha t saw the H a dens have a hoto Three-title w inner Jake Zemke (21 dices with Coolbeth (321 and Kevin Varnes (1 I in the 125cc Amateur class -. finish, with Nicky coming from behind to nip Tommy a t the checkered flag. Strong came back in the 85cc Modified (12-15) main event, taking the lead from Mike Hacker on lap three. Ken Cool beth and SCOll Huff also got by for second and third. Todd Winsell dominated the 85cc Stock (7-11) final, easily beating Joshua Knott. Ken Coolbeth and Ra ndall Shank battled over the l25cc Schoolboy title with Coolbeth coming out on to p. M urphree came back for his second title of the night, besting 16 o ther riders in the 85cc Modified (7II ) race. "I didn't know abou t the 65 class, bu t I was sure .I' d win the 85. This is an excellent track, " said an elated Murphree. Tommy Hayden worked his way by Todd Winsett on the last lap to take second. John Lambrick won the 200cc class on his Decatur Custom Tool! Grayboy Kawasaki-sponsored Kawasaki. Lambrick held off half mile winner, Matt Coller as both riders far out-distanced the field. Once again it was no contest in the 250cc Amateur class as Georgie Price left Chad Barth and Rya n Anderson to decide second. Winconsin's SCali Schnabel riding his Sc hnabel Electric/Bob Zurnsponsored Kawasaki , finished far ahead of Terry Adams in th e 400cc class. Ken Coolbeth came back in the l25cc Amateur final to take the lead fr~m !-,aul ~orf?3n with two laps left, w Joel Barr ow worked his Bea uty Shack R a cin g / Ea rl ' s R a c i n g / Henderson Motorcycle/Whitely's Welding/ P&E Ra ci n g- spo n sored Honda by Jeff Eklund LO win the 500cc Amateur title. Californian Mark Butler passed early leader Sonny Burres and pulled LO an easy win of the Senior Over 30 class on his Westech Motorsports/ Dinosaur Raci ng/ J im Lindemann Suspension -backed Rotax, Steve Wilson finished third. Price quickly disposed .of Joe . H ou p t and won the Open Amateur main. Mark Bu tler closed la te in th e race, but had to settle for second while Wilson fin ish ed third for the seco nd race in a row. Sonn y Burres dominated the Senior Over 40 class on his Louis Kinnish/Carroll Racing-backed Triumph. Jack Warren finished a distant second. . California traveling mates, Tim Selby and Paul Pochemus, swept the 500cc Pro-Am class ahead of Bart Schmulbach and Kent Longcor. Schrnulbach looked to have the Open Pro-Am locked up, but blew his Rotax big time in turn four. It was not a steady rain but forced referee Dick Andrae to shorten the leng th of the races to insure everything could be run. Bea u Braswell came out on LOp of the 15 riders 51cc main, giving him a three race sweep of the class. Noah Kirkland out-distanced Roy Miller a nd Brian Strong in the 85cc Stock (12-15) fina l. The 65cc race was a Hayden family affair as Nicky, Tommy and J en n y Hayde n swept the first - three positions. Scali Huff, riding one of the new DTX Kawasakis, and Ken Coolbeth battled in the 85cc Modified (12-15) final. Cool beth took the lead on lap three and stretched it out for the win. Todd Winsell continued his domination of the 85cc Stock (7-11) class, easily beating Charles Fontenot and Tracy Honeck. Jack Zemke stormed by Georgie Price ea rly in the l25cc Schoolboy main event and rode to an easy win. Ken Cool beth too k third.
