Stanton cap p ed off his cha mpionshipwi n ning su percross season in style, win ning the season finale in
the historic Los Angeles
Coliseum.

Stanton admitted to being a little
reluctant to take chances as he
strolled to a fifth place finish to wrap
up his first-ever Supercross Championship. Tonight, however, was a
different story. With the $50,000
Ca mel bonus already tucked away,
the Michigan resident, racing
arou nd the perimeter of the Los
Angeles Raiders home football field,
took heed in Raider owner AI Davis'
famous words, "just win, ba by."
The 20-year-old fought past his
Ho nda teamm ate George Holland
on the seventh lar of the 20-lap final ,
held off the brie advances of Kawasaki's jeff Ward, an d cruised to an
easy win - his fift h of the season.
Ward, meanwhile, held on to
second spot, p lacing him fifth in the
year-end point standings - the same
position he held last season.
