Mike Fisher (15) passes Jeff Frisz early in the first 250cc moto on his way to a th ird-place fin ish. Fisher finished 16th in moto two. As Lechien (4 ) faded in the second 250cc meto, O'Mara moved in and unsuccessfully challenged him for third in a close battle. Ron Tichenor (11 l..and Doug Dubach had a close battle in the second 250cc rnoto, but it ended in the next turn when they bot h went down. Donny Schm it (9) led early in the first 125cc class moto before Damon Bradshaw (45 ) took the lead and went on to w in. Schmit finished second. Privateer Fred Andrews (17) had a pair of strong performances for fifth overall in the 250cc class. Lechien ope ned up a lead of a cou p le of seconds on Ward, but by lap fou r was being cha llenged by hi s teammate for the lead . Sta nton al so moved in, making it a three-wa y battle fo r the top spot. A lap la ter both Ward and Stanton got past Lechien in th e ba ck section of th e track. " He went sideways and that let me by," sa id Ward. . Ward a nd Stanton quickl y pulled away as Lechi en dropped off th e pace. Ward sai d: " I was riding a good, fast pace so if Stan to n was go ing to get by he'd have to go reall y fast. Lechien co n tin ued to fad e into th e cl u tches o f O 'M ara a nd th e two battled for the last severa l laps. But despite O'Mara 's a ttacks, Lechien held his grou nd to claim third .· Dym ond was fifth , well a head of Andrews, T ichenor, Dubach , Frisz and Larry Broo ks.
