Warrant, the heavy metal rock band, has teamed up with the Motorcycle Safety Foundation in iO nat iona l public service anno uncem ent campaign to spread the word t hat it ' s cool to ride saf ely. The campaign is aimed at you n g motorcyclists w ho are overrepresented in accident statistics. According to Bush, KTM owner Erich Trunkenpoltz has inked a deal with investors to obtain funds that will help increase the Austrian manufacturer's engineering and research and development departments. Yamaha Motor Corp., U.S.A., has re leased its official contingencypaying schedule for the remaining 1989 AMA/ CCS road races. Team Suzuki motocrossers Johnny O 'Mara and Jimmy Gaddis were " swapping injury stories on the flight back from the ML Morris National and O'Mara, who has suffered from knee injuries for several seasons, demonstrated just how bad his right knee is. With the knee bent, O 'Mara grabbed his lower leg and pushed "forward, and the top of the lower leg visibly separates from the knee joint. " " Dirt tracker Brian Atherton, who suffered a broken leg, broken ribs and back injuries at the April 22 Phoenix Half Mile round of the AMA 600 National Dirt Track Series, was spectating at the Springfield Mile before the rain hit. Atherton is sporting what one competitor referred to as a "jungle gym." The metal halo device which is attached to his head and keeps his neck in a fixed position is a "pain in the neck" to Atherton. "I wake up every morning with a sore neck," said the Michigan racer, who has visibly lost weight during his recuperation period. "I weighed 138 to 140 before the accident and even with this on my head and shoulders I only weigh 132." Atherton said he' lI have to'wear the apparatus " two more months." 46 The $25,000 Camel Supercross 125cc Shoot-Out' will take place at the June 10 Los Angeles Coliseum Supercross.
